VOLUME 58 ISSUE 14 APRIL 6, 2021 P29 meted approximately 1000 feet in total elevation back down to the pits. Despite his back-of-the-pack start, Roberts wasn't worried. "I kind of knew the race was going to really start once we got into the mountains, just with how dusty it is down here in the valley, so I waited until we got up there to really start making some moves and charging. I think I got into the lead about half- way through the first lap and tried to put in a good lap and a half and get a gap quick so I could back it down for the rest of the race." That turned out to be an excel- lent strategy because the Kenda/ Rekluse/Klim 480 RR-mounted Roberts completed four laps 20 seconds shy of two and a half hours—the time at which the check- ered flag would've been thrown. Thus, he and the rest of the fastest riders had to go out for a fifth lap, Shane Logan (NT143) made quite the splash in his AMA WHS debut. After nailing the holeshot over defending Pro 250 champ Clayton Gerstner, he ran as high as second overall before settling for fourth overall and the Pro 250 win. (Above) Britney Gallegos did double duty on Sunday. First, she sped to the win in Pro Women—an hour and a half effort—over defending champ Sharon Mowell. She then lined up in Pro 250 but later retired early.
