Dale Singleton and his buddy Elmer the pig celebrate winning the
Daytona 200 40 years ago. It was the "Pig Farmer's" second career
Daytona 200 victory... Honda announced its plans to build a 750cc V-twin
dirt tracker (NS750) to compete in the AMA GNC/Winston Pro Series...
Suzuki's Darrell Shultz won the Daytona Supercross... We featured an
interview with ISDT gold medalist, 22-year-old Terry Cunningham, who
was also seeking his first AMA Enduro title... We tested the 1981 KTM 495
motocrosser that sold for $2690.

We featured our coverage of the Daytona 200 50 years ago. For the
second year in a row, the win went to BSA-mounted Dick "Bugsy"
Mann; Kel Carruthers won the 250cc class over Cal Rayborn and 65
other riders... Ron Bohn out-dueled John Penton to win the Alligator
Enduro. Bill France Jr. of the Daytona Speedway fame, took ninth
place in the 200cc class... For the first time, motocross was held on the
Daytona infield on a track designed by Gary Bailey. Husky rider Bryan
Kenney beat out Jimmy Weinert for the Open-class win, while Gunnar
Lindstrom topped Barry Higgins for the 250cc-class victory.
Yamaha ran this full-page ad of
Nathan Ramsey, who won the 125cc
East Supercross round in Atlanta.
Jamie James (2) leads the Daytona 200 30 years ago,
but it was Miguel Duhamel (97) who took the win.
