ROUND 5/JUNE 2, 2013 MUGELLO CIRCUIT/MUGELLO, ITALY MOTOGP P78 MOTOGP WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP Briefly... other step," he said. "I am not sure why Nicky was slower than at the test - my time today is one second faster than the test." The win was Lorenzo's second of the season and his third straight at Mugello. In engineering, the KISS principle means "Keep It Simple, Stupid." Mugello introduced a new version – Keep it Shiny and Sustainable. Particularly applicable to a track surrounded by natural beauty, KiSS Mugello brings together the circuit organizers with Yamaha, representing the industry, the FIM with its "Ride Green" sustainability program, Dorna, and riders from various disciplines. Yamaha spokesman Marco Riva summed it up by quoting an earlier statement from David Chernushenko: "Sport is sustainable when it meets the needs of today's sporting community while contributing to the improvement of future sports opportunities for all and the improvement of the integrity of the natural and social environment on which it depends." As well as a recycling program at the track, the main thrust of the initiative is to increase awareness of environmental needs. Rabat has 55, Espargaro 54. Moto3 has taken over where the 125s left off at Mugello – reliably thrilling racing with big slipstreaming groups switching to and fro. This time there were six up front, led away by pole starter Jonas, chased by the usual suspects Maverick Vinales, Estrella Galicia teammates Alex Rins and Alex Marquez and Luis Salom, joined by Mahindra's Miguel Oliveira. Folger would drop to the back of the group by the end as Vinales took over, while Marquez and Oliveira would both have a chance to lead. But for the last four laps Salom took over, to win by .099 of a second from Rins and Vinales. Oliveira was fourth, missing the Indian Mahindra's first podium by less than half a second but with the consolation of the lap record; then Marquez on his back wheel, Folger just a little way back. Vinales retained the title lead, 106 points to Salom's 102; then came Rins with 81, Folger's 63 and Marque with 35. CN Mahindra brought the first major engine upgrade for its unexpectedly successful allnew Moto3 bike to Mugello – but it was only for wild card Andrea Locatelli, who rides for the only Indian company in racing in the Italian championship. Regular riders Miguel Oliveira and Efren Vazquez will get the power-up parts for the next race at Catalunya, depending on its performance at Mugello. Mahindra Racing CEO Mufaddal Choonia said it was promising, after the teenage rookie produced strong performances in both damp first free practice sessions, even rivaling fancied runner Oliveira at times. "For a young rookie to do that makes me think the power-up modifications are working well. We had very good results on the dyno." Built in conjunction with Suter Racing in six months from drawing board to racetrack, the Mahindra MGP3O proved not only reliable from the outset, but also better than the sundry Hondas, losing out to the classleading KTMs mainly on acceleration and speed. MotoGP 1. Jorge Lorenzo (Yamaha) 2. Dani Pedrosa (Honda) 3. Cal Crutchlow (Yamaha) 4. Stefan Bradl (Honda) 5. Andrea Dovizioso (Ducati) 6. Nicky Hayden (Ducati) 7. Michele Pirro (Ducati) 8. Aleix Espargaro (ART) 9. Bradley Smith (Yamaha) 10. Hector Barbera (FTR)
