aking a day off from his
commercial pilot training in
Dallas to compete, veteran
road racer Steve Rapp flew in to
Wisconsin for the Harley race
on Sunday and scored the win,
despite missing Friday and Saturday's practice and qualifying.
Rapp, riding the Suburban Har-
ley-Davidson-backed XR1200,
pulled away to a convincing
4.051-second victory over Wisconsin's own Ben Carlson. Carlson nipped both Michael Barnes
and Travis Wyman at the line in
the ultra-close battle for second.
Barnes leads the points, 3735, over Tyler O'Hara, but the
series championship will be decided in a late-season Shootout
race series.

For Rapp, being a part-time
racer seems to be working out
quite well.
"Just the way things are going
with racing and the economy and
all that, I just had to kind of figure
out what I was going to do during and after this," he explained.
"These bikes, you don't have to
do a lot to them; you get them
pretty good and just ride them.
