and I think I had a good rhythm.
The bike is working really good. I
want to thank the Yoshimura Suzuki team. They've been great.
I'm very happy with the result, but
we'll try to do a little bit better tomorrow. Hopefully we can."
Herrin fell off the pace of the
leaders when he ran off the track
on lap nine and dropped all the
way back to eighth place. He
fought back and on the final lap
moved past EBR's Geoff May to
take sixth.
"It might have been the bike,
it might have been me," Herrin
said of hitting a false neutral. "It
ran off from sixth gear and went
into neutral going into turn one.
It lifted the back tire up and side
swapped and I couldn't control it
and ran straight off. I was really,
really close to crashing. I just
wanted to make sure everything
was working on the bike when I
went back out. Once it seemed
alright I put my head down and
tried to catch as many guys as I
could."
Herrin's troubles moved National Guard/Jordan Suzuki's
Roger Lee Hayden into third. He
held off Larry Pegram by less
than a second to secure the final
spot on the rostrum.
"In the beginning I made a lot
of mistakes," Hayden admitted.
"These guys got a gap on me
and were slowly pulling away. I
made another big mistake and
Larry [Pegram] was on me. The
last few laps I was just holding
him off. I'm pretty disappointed
with third place to be honest; I
Martin Cardenas (36) came away from Road America
with a pair of seconds and the lead in the AMA Superbike
Championships; Josh Herrin (2) was third on Sunday after an
off-track excursion led to a sixth on Saturday.
P39
was so far back and didn't ride
very good. "
Pegram led Hayden at times,
but couldn't make it stick and
had to settle for fourth. Hayden
seemed to be getting consistently better drives out of the
corners and it ended up a bit of a
disappointment for Pegram, who
scored a pair of thirds at Daytona. The battle for the final podium
was lost for Pegram at the end of
the back straight.
"I got into Canada Corner hot,"
Pegram explained. "I was thinking about trying to make a move
on him and I didn't want to run
into him so I just had to go wide.
We're just struggling for some
reason. I'm not sure why."
Danny Eslick recovered from
a bad start and went from ninth,
