Whibley, on the Am/Pro Yamaha, was never too far back. "I was
slowly picking away, but I wasn't
gaining fast enough to make any
kind of run at him at all," Whibley
said. "Nick got away when the
track was fresh and kind of tight.
He kind of pinned it. I guess he's
kind of used to that enduro kind
of terrain. I was a little bit gun-
shy. There were a few logs and
stuff like that. Especially the first
couple laps in the long grass,
you couldn't really see what was
there and I was being a little bit
careful."
After the trail had a chance to
work in, Whibley pressed harder,
but he could not collect the determined Husaberg rider.
"I was pushing really hard try-

ing to catch him, but he was riding really well," Whibley said. "It
was a good race. It was good
chasing Nick."
Bobbitt, making his fourth podium in four races, crashed in the
middle of the race, but he soldiered on, passing FMF/KTM's
Russell, who had a miserable
race, sticking his bike in the mud
twice.
