ROUNDS 3/4/JUNE 1-2, 2013 ROAD AMERICA/ELKHART LAKE, WISCONSIN AMA SUPERBIKE P42 AMA NATIONAL GUARD SUPERBIKE SERIES Danny Eslick didn't have the pace of the leaders, but he managed to finish fifth in both races. The battle for third on Saturday: Roger Lee Hayden (54) held off Larry Pegram (72) for the spot. moving to fifth by the end. There was a little more suspense in Sunday's race. Hayes had trouble at the drop of the green and then took four laps in the 12-lap race to finally get to the lead. Once there he built up a gap to as much as 2.5 seconds over Cardenas - only to watch it evaporate in the closing laps. In the end his margin of victory was just .8 of a second. My Own Race: 6 CHRIS CLARK 11TH/14TH Chris Clark qualified 11th and hoped to improve on that position during the races. Unfortunately, the Yoshimura Suzuki rider had off-track excursions in both races, once by his own doing, the other due to another rider's mistake. And his bike also mysteriously died on the warm-up lap in Sunday's race. "We had a little issue before the start," Clark said. "Luckily, I was able to make the restart; I tried to make my way through, but just made a little mistake and I ran off the track. The number of laps at this race is so few that there's not much you can do at that point. I just rode through the gravel, but by the time I rejoined it was too late. On yesterday's race I ran off the track, but it wasn't my fault. One of the other riders was a little overconfident with his braking ability and he took us both wide in turn five. It was a fellow Suzuki rider, [David] Anthony. He came up underneath me. I was on the outside and he couldn't make the corner so I had to ride with him off the track." 54 ROGER LEE HAYDEN 3RD/4TH Following up on his podium finish in Saturday's race, Hayden "I completely botched the start," Hayes admitted. "But I was able to recover fairly well in turn one. I got myself into a good position. Josh wanted to make something happen in turn three finished a lonely fourth on Sunday. His strong performance in Wisconsin moved the youngest of the racing Hayden brothers to sixth in the series standings. "I made a big mistake early on and lost the draft and I really need the draft here," Hayden said of Sunday's race. "Those guys just slowly inched away from me. I was riding pretty hard to try to reel them back in, but they were just better than me here. I look forward to Barber where there's some shorter straightaways and will try to do better. Third and fourth is not a bad result, but the gap to the front is a lot bigger than I want." 18 CHRIS ULRICH 13TH/12TH The only Honda entry in AMA Superbike is still dealing with issues of dialing in the ECU on the motor of the M4/Broaster Chicken Racing Honda. With only nine total days on the track with the new bike, the team is still trying to dial it in and Ulrich said they made some radical changes for Sunday's race and it helped. In Sunday's race he had a great battle with Cory West and Jason Farrell. But a bad gearing choice cost him top speed in the end. "The weekend started really frustrating," Ulrich explained. "We've got a problem with our electronics on what the AMA is going to allow us to use. We slowly worked on that and got it marginally better, but it's not
