The Ohvale series
keeps getting
bigger with the
new MiniGP
World Series just
announced.
FIM MiniGP World Series
Announced by Dorna
T
he FIM and Dorna have
teamed with Italian manufac-
turer Ohvale to create the FIM
MiniGP World Series, which will
be part of the Road To MotoGP
platform.
The FIM MiniGP World Series
will comprise MiniGP compe-
titions organized by various
promoters across the globe that
sign up to be part of the new ini-
tiative, with each competition in
the series adhering to the same
set of sporting and technical
regulations in order to standard-
ize competition.
The races will take place
on karting circuits, with riders
between 10 and 14 years old
competing on equal Ohvale
GP-0 160 machinery. The official
single tire supplier will be Pirelli,
with a standard tire allocation
given per event.
This means the series that
supports the MotoAmerica
Championship is now linked to
the Road to MotoGP initiative,
the champion of which will be
given the opportunity to race in
the World Final, which will take
place during the week leading
up to the final MotoGP event
of the season. The winner of
the World Final will the secure
a spot in one of the Road To
MotoGP programs such as the
Idemitsu Asia Talent Cup or
entry into the Honda British Tal-
ent Cup, Northern Talent Cup or
European Talent Cup (the USA
does not yet have a Talent Cup
series of its own).
"The FIM MiniGP World
Series will play an important role
in standardizing competition for
young riders around the world,
helping their talent to shine on
a level playing field and creating
more opportunities than ever be-
fore," said Dorna CEO, Carmelo
Ezpeleta. "We are delighted to
collaborate on this new project
and see it become reality, and
we can't wait to see the talent
that emerges from the series in
the future." CN
