Lawrence made two costly mistakes on the
first lap which put him well back in the pack.
The Honda HRC rider missed a shift on the
start chute then stalled on the wall jump on the
first lap, putting himself in a deep hole right
off the bat. At this point, it was just a matter of
seeing how far up the ladder he could climb
before the checkered flag. As it turned out,
pretty far!
"I had really good flow," Lawrence said.
Lawrence clawed and scratched his way up
through the field until he actually had the sec-
ond-place rider, Craig, in his sights moments
after having passed rival Michael Mosiman. On
the last lap, Lawrence, who now had a lock
on the podium in third, got a little greedy and
wanted more. Lawrence chased down Craig
and, in an attempt to get into second, Law-
rence made a questionable pass attempt on
Craig. The two locked handlebars and ran off
the track, sending Craig down while Lawrence
managed to stay upright.
