SUPERCROSS MONSTER ENERGY AMA SUPERCROSS SERIES, AN FIM WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP ROUNDS 2-3 / JANUARY 19 & 23, 2021 NRG STADIUM / HOUSTON, TEXAS P64 that he wasn't happy with his rid- ing, but he never once blamed it on his leg. Saturday saw two of the class' heavy hitters—Hampshire and For- kner—knocked out of champion- ship contention, both sustaining injuries in the afternoon. Hamp- shire crashed in free practice and took a trip to the hospital with an injured wrist, and Forkner crashed out of Q1, landing hard on his shoulder. He, too, went to the hospital and did not return. Lawrence came into Houston 3 riding on a wave of confidence but took a nasty spill in the whoops late in the final qualify- ing session, smashing his upper right leg between his bike and the ground. He hobbled back to the pits but came back swing- ing, winning his heat race but, surprisingly, seemed annoyed, saying he wasn't happy with his riding. Lawrence still finished third (albeit a distant third) in the main and again said afterward ner before taking the checkered flag 3.5 seconds ahead of him. Nichols and Craig now head to Indianapolis tied atop the cham- pionship leaderboard. But right there behind them is the young Aussie, Jett Lawrence. Lawrence captured the first Supercross win of his career Tuesday night. He led from start to finish, taking the checkers a full seven seconds ahead of Nichols and another six seconds ahead of Craig. Colt Nichols (64) outdueled his Monster Energy Star Racing Yamaha teammate Christian Craig to win Saturday's 250SX East main.
