Webb, meanwhile, certainly
didn't "luck" into the win. He still
earned it. Webb, too, was slowed
by lappers at times but still man-
aged to keep pressure on Roc-
zen the whole way. He was even
clearly gaining on Roczen late
in the race and had an outside
chance of passing Roczen on the
last lap had the "Dean incident"
(as Roczen put it) not have hap-
pened.
"It was a close race the whole
time and Kenny rode a solid race
with not many mistakes," Webb
said. "The track was really tricky,
easy to over-ride and get impa-
tient. The lappers there at the end
was a bummer, I felt like we were
going to have a really good battle,
and obviously, we did, but the
lappers were really tough tonight.
I hung in there and I pounced on
that last lap and made it happen."
The win moved Webb up six
positions to second in the champi-
onship, one point behind Roczen.
He's tied with opening-round win-
ner Justin Barcia (TLD/Red Bull/
GasGas).
Barcia finished a disappointing
ninth Tuesday despite clipping a
Tuff Block and ripping off his shift
lever. As a result, he had to ride
much of the main stuck in first
gear. Taking that into consider-
ation, a ninth isn't too disappoint-
ing, after all.
Fourth Saturday night, Barcia
was a victim of a bad start and a
small crash but still showed win-
ning speed while he continues to
impress this season.
After a horrible opening-round
Instagram post later that evening
and Roczen responded, also via
Instagram, "Accepted." Adding
after pointing out what his actions
might have cost him: "Be aware of
your surroundings [on the track]."
As Wilson rode back to the
pits after the race, Wilson could
be heard saying to Roczen, who
was waiting for him to ride by,
that he was sorry. Wilson then
again apologized to Roczen in an
Justin Barcia (51) was ninth Tuesday night but that was
a lot better than it appeared when we learned his shift
lever had snapped off and he was riding around in first
gear. Overall, Barcia rode well in Houston.
Justin Brayton finished
on the podium Tuesday
night for the first time
in nearly three years.
After that race, he was
third in championship
points, which is a
position he's never
been in before.
