VOL. 50 ISSUE 21 MAY 29, 2013
dropped off the pace after getting of to a strong start.
"Today just wasn't our day,"
Strang said later.
With almost three hours of racing complete, Duvall sliced and
diced his way into the lead, with
Russell now looking for a line to
get back in the fight for the lead.
Mullins slipped back to third
but you knew that wouldn't last
for long, and it didn't.
He quickly regained the point
after catching and then passing
Russell just before taking the
checkered flag. Spent and worn
out, Mullins raised his hand in
victory, as he brought his KTM
across the finish line securing his
fourth victory of the season.
Duvall rounded out the top
three, with Whibley taking fourth
and KTM rider Rory Mead sneaking into the top five.
DeLong, who had led most
of the race on his F.A.R. Husky,
dropped way back to eighth with
a mechanical problem, leaving
the race for the XC2 victory up
in the air. With DeLong out of the
P113
picture, Grant Baylor and Jason
Thomas battled for the win, and
it was Baylor who would prevail in
the end, nabbing his first XC2 victory of his career.
But it was all bad for Thomas,
as his second place put him back
in the XC2 points lead.
Jedediah Haines would claim
the final podium position and, like
with so many of the other riders,
he collapsed and needed assistance to cool down. The conditions had taken its toll on many in
the blistering heat.
