makes him the new leader, unofficially.
Among the riders Hutchings
passed on the last loop was
Open A winner Irving Powers,
who held on to finish sixth, followed by fellow Open A Tallon
Taylor, Capparelli, and Open A's
Taran Taylor (no relation to Tallon)
and James Rhodes.
Women A/B winner Maggie
Pearson deserves mention for
perseverance as much as her riding ability. Though older brother
Tuffy DNFed, she wasn't about
to suffer the same fate when the
throttle cable broke on her Western Design Racing TM 125 late in
the race. Since she had no tools,
she flagged down Senior B racer
Paul Nelson who loaned her his
fanny pack. After figuring things
out, she eventually tied the two
broken pieces of cable together
above the carb slide and reassembled everything.
The hard part was trying to ride
with her right hand reaching over
to the left side of the bike and
tugging the throttle cable while
steering only with her left hand,
