Marini Debuts Sky Racing Team
VR46 Ducati
L
uca Marini used the Italian
X-Factor television show to
debut the new Sky VR46 Ducati
he will race as part of the Espon-
sarama Racing Team in 2021.
It will be a similar livery to those
of fellow Sky VR46 riders Marco
Bezzecchi and Celestino Vietti in
Moto2, while Marini's 2021 team-
mate and current Moto2 World
Champion Enea Bastianini will
race in a different color scheme
within the Esponsarama team.
Marini's debut in the MotoGP
category will mean there will be
three riders from the VR46 Acad-
emy on the grid in 2021, as Marini
joins Franco Morbidelli and Pecco
Bagnaia in the class.
Sky VR46 will likely take over
the Esponsarama squad's place
on the MotoGP grid as a complete
entry for the 2022 season. CN
Gresini Goes It
Alone For 2022
T
he Gresini Racing Team will revert
back to an independent outfit for
the 2022 season, with confirmation the
team will split from Aprilia Racing.
Following an agreement with team
body IRTA, Gresini will be an indepen-
dent team from 2022 to 2026.
Currently, Gresini runs Aprilia's fac-
tory race team in MotoGP, as well as
fielding its own riders in Moto2 and
Moto3, making it one of the largest
teams in the paddock.
For 2022, Gresini and Aprilia will go
their separate ways, although it has not
yet been decided which manufacturer
Gresini will represent in MotoGP. CN
Despite the Sky
VR46 colors, Marini
will be a part of the
Esponsarama team in
2021, with the VR46
team likely taking full
control in 2022.
Fausto Gresini, who has run his own
team in MotoGP for many years, will
revert back to being an independent
team for the 2022 season.
