2021 DUCATI MONSTER
T
he Ducati Monster can take credit
for putting more new bums on
Ducati seats than any other model
since its inception in 1992, and for 2021,
it's getting more than just a facelift.
The machine now just named the Ducati
Monster replaces two models in the Mon-
ster 821 and the Monster 797, and now
uses the 11° Testastretta L-twin more com-
monly found in the Hypermotard. Horse-
power is claimed at 111 at 9250 rpm, with
torque registered at 69 lb-ft at 6500 rpm,
and the whole package tips the scales at
366 pounds dry.
Weight has been saved everywhere—the
frame is now the Front Frame design pio-
neered by the Panigale and is 60 percent
lighter than in 2020. Nearly four pounds
is gone from the wheels, 5.5 pounds
from the engine, and 4.2 pounds from
the subframe via the use of GFRP (Glass
Fiber Reinforced Polymer), resulting in
a claimed 39.7-pound weight reduction
compared to the old Monster 821.
As for the electronics, you get three
riding modes of Sport, Urban and Touring,
a quickshifter as standard, ABS, IMU-
assisted traction control, wheelie control,
launch control and color TFT dash.
There are two versions of the new
Monster—the $11,895 base model, and
the $12,195 Monster-plus model. Expect
these two machines to be in Ducati deal-
ers by April of 2021. CN
