2021 Triumph Trident 660
First Look
O
ne of the most famous names in
Triumph's history—the Trident—will be
back on dealer floors for the 2021 model
year as a 660cc variant for the tasty price
of $7995 MSRP.
The new machine will use a 660cc triple
to keep it in line with the company's love
of the three-pot engine for its performance
naked bikes and boast 80 horsepower and
47 lb-ft of torque, with 90 percent of said
torque available from 3000 rpm.
The tubular steel chassis Trident is
Triumph's budget-conscious model, so
suspension and brakes are not what you'd
find on the Street Triple 765 range, for
example, with the Showa fork unadjust-
able and Showa shock receiving preload
adjustability only. Brakes are taken care of
by conventionally-mounted (not radial)
twin Nissin four-piston calipers.
The electronics see the Trident rider
with twin-engine maps of Road and Rain,
on/off traction control, and non-switch-
able ABS. The dash is an old-school
circular unit with the digital rev counter
sweeping across the top. In it, there'll be
smartphone connectivity, the ability to
control your GoPro, and turn-by-turn direc-
tions.
Triumph will be taking on machines like
the Honda CBR650, Kawasaki Ninja 650,
Suzuki SV650, and Yamaha MT-07 with
the new Trident, and the price point should
make it extremely competitive in the cat-
egory. Expect them to hit dealer floors by
January of 2021. CN
