MOTOGP FIM MOTOGP WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND 12 / OCTOBER 25, 2020 MOTORL AND ARAGON / TERUEL, SPAIN P98 Meanwhile, Morbidelli suddenly was the new leader with a long 23 laps still to go. The Yamaha rider didn't let constant pressure by last week's winner Alex Rins deter him. Morbidelli eventually opened up a small lead and went on to take the victory 2.205 seconds ahead of Rins. Joan Mir made it a Suzuki double po- dium for the second week in a row by fin- ishing third a little more than three seconds behind his Suzuki Ecstar teammate, Rins. The win moves the Italian, Morbidelli, up to fourth in the championship, and he is now 25 points behind leader Mir. IIIMY OWN RACE: 12 MAVERICK VINALES 7TH MOTOGP "I'm sure that for us the so -so re op- on was the right one," Maverick Vinales said. "We saw in the last race that Fabio chose the medium front and the pressure was too high, so he lost a lot of posi ons. We preferred to ride with the so re which was, let's say, the safer op on. With the so re I can normally ride real- ly well, so I thought for me this wouldn't be a problem, except today I had no grip on the res, only in the first three laps. Then I had a big drop in both res and cha er, so I couldn't do anything." 41 ALEIX ESPARGARO DNF MOTOGP Aprilia's Aleix Espargaro was having an excellent ride when he suddenly coasted to a stop. Before then, he had muscled his way into the top 10 and was pressur- ing Quartararo and Vinales for seventh when things went sour. "We greatly improved the setup compared to last week," Aleix Espargaro said. "Yesterday in qualifying, I was extremely fast and today in the race I also gave it my all. I made some good passes with a top-five pace and a few laps from the end I had easily caught up with Quartararo and ViƱales. Just as I was about to a ack Fabio, the engine stopped and there was nothing I could do. It's a hard pill to swallow." Aragon 1 winner Alex Rins didn't press the point when his tires started going away while chasing Morbidelli, instead riding smart and settling for another podium. Despite having not won a race so far this year, Joan Mir extended his points lead over Fabio Quartararo with another podium. It was the second double podium in a row for Suzuki.
