FLAT TRACK PROGRESSIVE AMERICAN FLAT TRACK CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND 14-15 / OCTOBER 16-17, 2020 DAY TONA INTERNATIONAL SPEEDWAY/ DAY TONA BEACH, FLORIDA P66 his last, and that kind of reso- nated with me. Who knows? It might be another 10 years before I possibly win another one or five years, or I might never win another one." The championship was also made sweeter by the fact that the former road racer had to fight his way back. After racing the British Superbike championship for five years, Rispoli returned to his dirt track roots last season, and a year later he has a number-one plate. "I want to enjoy this one with the team. That's the biggest take- away for me is to just know that the number-one plate isn't mine; it's the team's. It's also for my guys from last year, my friends that paid for me to race and help Ben Lowe, but had to settle for second. With Rispoli finish- ing fourth behind Lowe, it was enough to take the title a day early. "It feels amazing," Rispoli said. "This one is different from my last road race championship eight years ago. I was a little bit more immature, I wasn't old enough. I really didn't enjoy it. It was like win-or-nothing and I was pretty pissed when I got second. This one, I just enjoyed the entire experience. I enjoyed every win like it was our last win. I enjoyed every podium like it was a win. I just made sure that I didn't lose touch. Johnny Rea always talks about that. He's won seven now, and every win he still treats it like it's his first or like it's going to be "It's pretty special," Lewis said. "To win again and with another brand, it felt good. But this year, it's an even bigger win for the team. We put so much into this starting back in November from working with the guys in the UK, developing the chassis with those guys and the motors. Then build- ing a team organically here in the States, picking some buddies and doing what I needed to have a team that flourishes like this. It's neat to be able to win for them and end the season this way." Behind him, G&G Racing Roof Systems' Cory Texter was doing everything he could to try and close the points gap if Rispoli made an error. He first passed fellow Yamaha rider, Roof Sys- tems Bruce Lowe Excavating's Cory Texter ended the year second in Production Twins, taking his fourth win of the season Saturday night.
