LUCAS OIL AMA PRO MOTOCROSS CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND 8 / OCTOBER 3, 2020 THUNDER VALLEY PARK / L AKEWOOD, COLORADO P64 MOTOCROSS so I gave it everything I had. It was damage control and we'll go to the next round with 18 points on J-Mart, which is better than zero. We'll see." CN 450MX Overall (Top 10) 1. Eli Tomac (Kaw) 3-1 2. Carson Mumford (Hon) 13-11 the older of the Australian broth- ers, went 5-4 for fifth, one better than his little brother, Jett. Meanwhile, at the front, Coo- per was thrilled to win again. "A lot of pressure was on my shoulders and I'm glad to say it's off," Cooper said afterwards. "I wanted to do this all season, but it just hasn't gone my way. It's a good time to do it, now I can go into the last round and try to do the same thing next weekend." Cooper brought his dog Thor up on the podium with him, then explained: "The last time he was at a race was (Anaheim 1), and I won there. I brought him again and we're on the top step again, so I might have to start paying for him to come every weekend." "I put my head down and gave it everything I had," said Ferrandis of the second moto. "The track was gnarly but it was a good ride, almost better than moto one. I think finishing fifth in the second moto would have been a disaster, added bonus of his teammates Cooper and McElrath staying in between them, which turned his 13-point lead into 20 points after the first moto. "This morning I started to feel the pressure of the championship and I've been trying to dig deep," Fer- randis said after the first moto win, his fifth in a row. "We are now think- ing about this championship, and I was happy with my start—the Star Racing Monster Energy bike was so powerful today and that helps a lot. I should have grabbed the hole- shot, but I released the throttle just a little bit too early; was behind my teammate and we had a good fight. I was surprised, the track, they put a lot of water on it and it was slip- pery. I took my time and then I took the lead and controlled the race. To win this moto gives me a bigger gap on J-Mart." Cooper started the series with a hand injury he suffered while training this summer, finishing slightly below the expectations many had for him. But at Colora- do he parlayed those good starts into a solid 2-1 day, then holding off a determined Jeremy Martin in the second moto in a thrilling duel. Martin was desperate to make up any ground he could on Ferrandis, but he had to settle for just a two-point swing in the second moto after the Frenchman overcame a poor start and a mid- race spill to still finish third, good enough for second overall, one spot better than Martin. McEl- rath's 3-5 was good for fourth overall while Hunter Lawrence, Martin lost a heated battle for the moto-two win to Cooper.
