T
he MotoGP World Championship
headed to Spain for the eighth
round of a condensed 2020 sea-
son, with Petronas Yamaha SRT's Fabio
Quartararo capturing his third win of the
season and first since round two.
The Frenchman showed the kind of
controlled speed that had been missing
since his first two wins at Jerez as he
overhauled first Valentino Rossi (Mon-
ster Energy Yamaha) and pole sitter
teammate Franco Morbidelli to ease
clear for a 0.9-second win.
However, it would not be a Yamaha
lockout of the podium as once again
the late charging Suzukis of Joan Mir
and Alex Rins took second and third,
the blue machines saving their tires for a
final push that almost had Mir on course
with Quartararo by race's end.
Fabio Quatararo (20)
needed a win to get his
season back on track
and the French protégé
finally delivered in
Spain. He needs to keep
it rolling however, if he
wants that title.
