Seewer Wins MXGP of Lombardia
S
wiss rider Jeremy Seewer
captured his first career MXGP
overall victory at the MXGP of Lom-
bardia, in Mantova, Italy, Septem-
ber 27. It was his first GP win since
2017, when he won the MXGP of
Sweden in the MX2 division.
Seewer, on the Monster Energy
Yamaha, led from start to finish in
the first moto, taking the check-
ered flag eight seconds ahead of
Jorge Prado and Prado's Red Bull
KTM teammate Antonio Cairoli.
Seewer had to work a little
hard in the second moto because
of a so-so start and a small crash,
but he pressed on and took
third behind winner Tim Gajser
and runner-up Glenn Colden-
hoff. However, his 1-3 was good
enough for the overall victory.
"I just won my first MXGP,"
Seewer said. "Amazing. It's in the
books and it's a big milestone in
my career. Everybody dreams of
winning an MXGP round, especial-
ly at the level we are racing right
now, so it's amazing. Especially
the first race, I won the start then
led every lap to the finish. The
second race didn't go as planned
but still I was lucky today, I was
at the right place at the right time
and now celebrating an overall."
Coldenhoff's 4-2 gave the
GasGas rider second overall, while
Prado's 2-4 netted the Spaniard
third overall. Prado actually crossed
the finish line in second place
and was initially announced as the
overall winner but was later penal-
ized two positions for not respecting
the yellow flag. Seewer was then
declared the overall winner.
Cairoli had a terrible second
moto, getting off to a 19th-place
start then having to pit for new
goggles. He ended up 13th.
Perhaps the biggest winner of
all was Honda HRC's Tim Ga-
jser, fourth overall, who climbed
to the top of the championship
leaderboard with his 8-1 motos.
After nine of 18 rounds, he leads
Cairoli by five points.
Rockstar Energy Husqvarna's
Thomas Kjer Olsen, of Denmark,
took the overall win in the MX2
class via a somewhat surprising
2-4 combo. It was his first overall
win of the season.
Tom Vialle (Red Bull KTM) and
Jed Beaton (Rockstar Energy
Husqvarna) came away with the
moto wins but struggled with their
consistencies. Vialle had issues
