LOOKING BACK
Our cover story 40 years ago was the Cologne motorcycle show. We were
pretty excited about the 1100cc Suzuki Katana and the Suzuki RM465
and RM125 motocrossers with their Full-Floater suspensions. The single-
shock BMW R80 G/S also caught our attention, as did the Puch 500cc
motocross bike... We reported the death of Kawasaki's National Enduro
and ISDT rider Tim Leimbach who died in an automobile accident at the
age of 21... Broc Glover won round two of the AMA Trans-USA MX Series
at RedBud.

OCTOBER 8, 1980
The Europeans came to North America 50 years ago to compete in the
opening round of the Inter-Am Motocross Series. Two separate events were
held, one in Canada and the other in Wisconsin. Torsten Hallman took the
win in Canada, while Bengt Aberg topped the race in Wisconsin... Mark
Brelsford led from start to finish at the Oklahoma City Half-Mile, which
was the last National of the year. Gene Romero had already clinched the
championship... We tested the 100cc Harley-Davidson Baja. We said it, "...
does not have the tendency to loop out on hills."
