VOLUME 57 ISSUE 39 SEPTEMBER 29, 2020 P65 Tomac said on his results this season. "Just put myself in bad positions off the start and just really not bringing anything to the table. I've been strug- gling to have those motos where I do come through the pack this year. There's more talent, more speed I think this year. Past weekends, I've been searching. Nice to know I can be up there again." Now 52 points down on Osborne, Tomac could be eliminated from title contention as early as next weekend's penultimate round in Colorado. Tomac's teammate Cianciarulo had been carrying the team this this se- ries, and ended up second in the first moto behind Osborne. But early in the second moto he was leading when he came together with Musquin in a rough sweeper and went down. "I think I put myself in good posi- tions today," Cianciarulo said after- wards. "I've had a really good last couple of weeks so it's easy to look at this result and be bummed out. Unfor- tunately, I came together with Marvin there. It was just kind of a weird deal. I didn't get a good drive into the rollers and he kind of had a line and we both went for the same line and man, it was HISTORY MAKER History was made at WW Racing when Kawasaki-mounted Jordan Jarvis became the first woman to actually qualify for the 40-rider field in Lucas Oil Pro Motocross. Jarvis, who hails from North Caro- lina, qualified 45th fastest in the morning timed sessions, which seed the fastest 36 riders into the main program, and then finished fifth in the last chance qualifier. She was at the gate waiting for the second moto in case other riders could not start. Sure enough, a rider could not get his bike run- ning time to race, and Jarvis was next in line. (MX Sports Pro Rac- ing allow alternates to be placed in both motos should any qualified riders pull out.) Jarvis was running inside the top 30 when her bike started misfiring. She would hold onto to finish 32nd. The only other time a woman raced against the men in AMA Pro Motocross was back in 1983 when Dorene Payne signed up for the 125 National in Colorado and a low turnout of rid- ers meant that she did not have to qualify. Payne did not score points in either moto. KR IN THE HOUSE Team Honda's Ken Roczen, a former two-time champion of the 450 class, came out to support his teammates Chase Sexton and Christian Craig. Roczen opt- ed out of racing the series due to lingering health issues that have plagued him the last couple of years. Roczen, who lives about two hours south of Jacksonville, drove up and helped call the first 450 moto for MAV-TV and NBC Sports Gold. SHORT CUT There was a bit of controversy in the second 450 moto when Max Anstie of the HEP/Twisted Team Suzuki began using a unique line in a split-lane chicane just past the mechanic's signaling area. Anstie, the former MXGP rider from Great Britain, was bat- tling with Chase Sexton, Blake Baggett, Eli Tomac and others when he began going over the carved wall that separated the two lanes, effectively straighten- ing and shortening the section by switching in the middle. A couple of team managers point- ed his line out to nearby officials, but there is no rule that prevents a rider from switching lanes in such sections. Regardless, Anstie's team kept telling him by his signal board to change lines, but he did not, and soon others were picking up on the line. Anstie held on for a solid fourth, one of his best AMA Pro Moto- cross motos to date. WW RANCH NOTES: "I caught a rock off the big- gest jump out there and it really scared me," said RJ Hamp- shire of his scary crash. "I'm lucky enough to walk away with pretty much minor aches and pains, but I'm sure I'll be feeling it later," ... Rockstar Energy Husqvarna's Jalek Swoll separated his shoulder again in the first moto and pulled out and did not start the second moto... Yamaha's Broc Tickle did not race in Florida. He's not fully recovered from his crash (knee, stomach) at Millville. He hopes to be back for Colorado... Briefly... found that spark that the outdoors but late to save the Here he passes
