IN THE WIND P58 only enough to hold onto third. Logan Cipala remained the only Twins rider to top the hill in the sevens, and he did it twice! The 450 Class started off with Nick Miller crossing the line in 9.754 seconds. Matt Walker broke into the eights with an 8.681 E.T. Logan Cipala upped the ante to 8.192 seconds for the lead at the half. Cardwell and Koester both pulled ahead of Walker for second and third, respectively, after one run. After intermission, Logan Cipala bettered his time by nearly two-tenths, but Koester broke the eight-second barrier with a per- fect run to the top in 7.955 sec- onds for the win. Cipala settled for second, and Cardwell- third. In the Premier class, the nitro bikes ran third in order. Luke Cipala rode first and scored 7.815 seconds. Next in the order, Libhart blasted up the hill and past Cipala, cresting in just 7.028 seconds. Alex Erickson nudged Cipala back another spot with a 7.301-sec- ond ride. Then Koester posted a 7.136-second E.T., wedging into second behind Libhart at the half, and just ahead of Erickson. In the second half, with the hill softened and deeply rutted by the onslaught of more than 70 runs, only a handful of Premier riders were able to better their first-half times, and none changed the order of the top three. Libhart, standing in first, waited through- out the second half to see if he would be bested—it never hap- pened. So Libhart's second-half run was more of a victory lap than anything else. Due to the shortened season, series championship points were awarded to riders based on each run, as if the first and second halves were rounds one and two. The series will finish on October 10 and 11 with two runs each day up the fabled Devil's Staircase, the Dayton Motorcycle Club's hill at Oregonia, Ohio. Jeff Whitehead Premier 1.
