Three Races, Three Winners At
Catalunya WorldSBK
B
y the end of the first-ever
WorldSBK round at the Mont-
melo circuit, the home round of
the Kawasaki Racing Team and
the HRC factory team, to name
but two main ones, the Kawasaki
guys left with the best overall
job done in the biggest possible
sense.
Jonathan Rea, already a five-
time champion, took three impor-
tant steps toward a possible sixth
crown, even if they were faltering
at times due to tech or other is-
sues.
Rea went 1-2-4 over the week-
end. It might not have been his
best results ever but he finished
ahead of rival Scott Redding (Aru-
ba.it Ducati) in all three races.
There was to be no 10th 2020
win for Rea, not yet at least.
After winning race one, he went
second in the sprint, after almost
being taken out of action himself,
then a well-beaten fourth in the
final 20-lap race on Sunday after-
noon. But his 1-2-4 was a much
better outcome than Reddings's
2-8-6.
Rea said on Sunday. "The tar-
get coming here was to increase
our championship lead and I
think we managed quite well."
There were two more new
winners this season, making it
seven distinct victors from the six
rounds and 18 individual races so
far. Michael van der Mark (Pata
Yamaha) won the sprint from Rea
and privateer Loris Baz (Ten Kate
Yamaha) then Chaz Davies (Aruba.
it Ducati) found the rear end setup
he had been looking for and won
a convincing 20-lap final race.

It wasn't a perfect
weekend at Catalunya
for Jonathan Rea but it
was a good one. He got
a race win and extended
his points lead over
Scott Redding.
