FIM NORTH AMERICAN ROAD RACE CHAMPIONSHIP
ROUND 6 / SEPTEMBER 11-13, 2020
NEW JERSEY MOTORSPORTS PARK / MILLVILLE, NJ
P84
Anyhow, back to NJMP.
Beaubier's two wins came
ahead of Westby Racing's
Mathew Scholtz by 9.5 sec-
onds, and 2020 first-time
podium finisher Toni Elias (M4
Ecstar Suzuki). In a red-flagged
race-two due to Bradley Ward's
crash, Beaubier finished ahead
of teammate and race-one
faller Jake Gagne by the more
respectable 2.8 seconds, and
Scholtz. The latter two had
a thoroughly engaging race,
joined at the hip throughout and
finishing within 0.014 seconds of
each other at the flag.
In the championship, despite
a crash in round two, Beaubier
leads by 84 points over Gagne,
275-191. Scholtz is third at 185.
BEAUBIER TO
WORLDSBK?
Ever since Michael van der Mark
announced that he was leaving the
Pata Yamaha World Superbike team
at the end of the current season
to take a ride on the factory BMW
team in 2021, the talk has centered
around who will be the rider who
replaces the Dutchman. One of
the names thrown about is that of
Cameron Beaubier. "If I got that Pata
opportunity, I would jump all over it,"
Beaubier said. "It's tough because
there are a lot of good riders over
there. The ratio between good rid-
ers and good teams is heavy on the
riders. I want to go over there. I just
want it to be the right opportunity.
I'm lucky for what I have here, but
I feel like if I have the opportunity
and I didn't jump on it, I would kick
myself when I was done racing."
HONOS TO SBK?
Honos caused a stir on its Instagram
feed last week when it showed
a photo of a Ducati wrapped in
Honos branding with the caption:
"Looking forward to 2021," hinting
at a MotoAmerica Superbike berth
for the team currently leading the
Supersport class with Richie Es-
calante. "We are definitely thinking
Superbike," team principal Hum-
berto Baca said. "I think the owner
of Honos was just a little bit excited
with the Ducati that he just picked
up. That was more his personal bike
for himself to ride in Mexico and not
here. Ducati is not something that
we are thinking about for next year."
Briefly...
Bobby Fong (50)
improved one
spot to fourth in
race two. David
Anthony (25)
wound back
the clock with
a strong ride to
eighth in race
one and took
ninth in race two.
