On Saturday, Jones got even early on with his high m ar k of the weekend in qualifying , setting a 93 .2 , followed b y Bart ram and 16 -year -o ld Suzu ki ride r N ate Adam s, wh o made the trek fro m Phoen ix , Arizon a , directly into the fin al by pl ac ing th ird to Jones and Ba rtram. Jimmy McGuire w as the fi rst rider out and his sitting time in the " hot seat" (the best score of t he even ing) didn 't last l on g , as Mil ler , th e third ri der out , posted a 92.6 to ejec t M cGu ire , but Mill er 's mov es d idn 't ca p tivate th e judg es as in h is pri o r eve n in g's performanc es and wo uld even tually fini sh third . O r egon ' s David " J e r ky" T u r ne r (the si xt h -p lac e finish er to Bartram, M ill er , M cElroy and Jake Windham on Frid ay ) land ed himself in a ti e on point s w it h M ille r, but M ill er nabbed th i r d ( d ue to h is exec utio n po ints) w hich w as very unpo pula r with t he vociferous crowd . Drak e McElroy had a good weekend , finishing fourth on Friday an d upping tha t performa nce on Saturday with a 92.9 score to not only notch hi s n am e amo ng th e hea vy h itter s, but also place him second to J on es, bu t ahead of Mill er, Turn er and Bartram . Bartram was th e next-to-Iast rid er to tackle the course, posting a fl awless vari ety of tricks, among th em a " Bart Attack : but late in th e game, while performing a " S a ra n Wrap ", Bartram fell , and it was th en all ov er for the lik ab le Oklah oman . Jones jolted the competition with h is normal routin e , but a l so add ed fi v e n ew t r ic ks t o his a rse na l in prepar at ion for th e Van s T riple Cro wn a wee k later. Th e fi n a l rid e r o u t , J on es made all of the ri ght moves t o c apti va t e th e cr ow d and win ov er th e IFMA panel to net th e top payoff of $ 1500 i n hi s w in , alth ou gh J on es c ouldn't meet h i s m ark of 93.2 in qualifyin g with a 92. 1 in the fina l.
