Howev er , this yea r's hosting c lub, th e Pros p e cto rs MC, d e c ided to c ha nge I (Leftl Ryan Du de k posted an Openclass win, a second in the 200cc race and a fourth with partner Joel Albrecht in the Team Race at t he Hungry Va lley Grand Prix. (Abovel Te a m Husky's Joey Lanza added a second District 37 numberone plate to his collection at Gonnan by w inning the 250cc champion ship. Lanza will wear " 1X " in th e dese rt an d at the Grand Prix events next year. I basically rodethis race to g et com fortable for the Team Rac e ." When the T eam Rac e ro lled around , some heavy h itt e rs took to the 40-man starting gate , wh ich didn't have an empty s pot to spare. RM250 -mounted R.J . Thompso n gra bbed a huge hole sh ot, lea ving all othe r te a ms to fight fo r second place. "Right at the start, R.J. was go ne: s ai d T ho m pso n's t e a m m a t e Ric h Ta ylor. Rid ing th e sa me E/XC 520 tha t ha d taken Myers a nd Walters had ridd en in th e Te a m Rac e, Mye rs grabbed a n e a rly lead , with Thompson chas ing. By th e end of the second la p of the 50 -m inute ra c e , Th om pson had taken th e lead , pass ing Mye rs afte r hea ding out onto the back section of the course . Mye rs , ho wev er , s t ill h e ld o n t o th e Fo ur Stroke hon ors, finis hing second overall , wit h 12 5cc riders Ryan Dud e k , Brent Harden and David Ree se ro unding out the top five ove rall. Th e prem ier race on Saturday was the 1 p .m . Te a m Race , which boasted a substantial purse to th e overall winners all th e wa y down to 10th pla ce . Ma ny race rs took advantage of the 8 a .m. "I was try ing to pass a lappe r an d h e c a me over o n m e a n d I ca rt wheele d big -time ," sa id Le hm an after the race. "I'm luc ky to be a live ." Although John Langhammer and Tod Sciacqua were on their game . the y were no match for Myers . Langhammer and Sciacqua battled in the early laps , but Sciacqua 's RM250 got the best o f Langhammer's YZ250 , giving the Sciacqua the class win . With two class wins and second in the Tea m Race, Myers opted to sit o ut t he final 25 0cc/Open ra c e , which turned into a series c ha m pio ns hip battle be twee n 25 0cc ride rs J o e y La nza a n d Jona tha n Dav ies . Bo th La n za a n d Da v ie s we re in co nte ntio n for the Big Six Gran d Prix 250cc c ha mpio ns hi p , but YZ42 5Fmounted Dude k a nd KTM2 50 -m ounted Brent Harde n didn't pay a tte ntio n to the scuffle b e h in d the m, a nd Dudek grabbed the O pe n class and the overall le a d right from the start. Harden led the 250cc class, followed by mot o crosser Mike Meadows , Dav ies and Lanza. Dude k wasted little time in o pe ning up a big lead. As Lanza went to work on Da vie s , Hard en went back to the pits . "On the second lap, I crashed out in the back section ," said Harden , who ran near the fron t of every race he entered .
