BRIEFLY•• • Sebastien Tortelli had a famous name helping him out at Bercy , as none ot her than two-time W orld M otocross C hampion and former American Supercross and M otocross champion Jean· Michel Bayle was working the Frenchman's corner. N e are good friends," Tort elli said. "He W was only helping me tonight . I am not sure if we will wo rk l ogether again; it worked tonight and he gave me some great help." . Bayle also gave some news about a possible comeback next season. "I might do some races." Bayle said. " I don't want to race Nationals anymore . but I still love Supercro ss. I don't know fo r sure what I'll do next year. I've been doing some races. and feel good . A t the moment. though. I am just looking forw ard to maybe working with Sebastien next year." Three Australian riders we re on show in Bercy this year · Chad Reed and Michael Byrne in the 250s. and Brett Metcalfe in the 125cc class. For the first time since Jeff Leisk wo n a night in Bercy some 15 years ago, an Aussie stood atop the podium in Paris, as Reed scored two podiums on Sunday and M etcalfe grabbed a w in on Sunday. Reed will race the 200 1 250cc Worid Championships wit h the factory Kawa sak i team , while M etcalfe wi ll race the 125cc W orld Motocross C hampionships with the TM factory. Bot h are more than interested to race in the USA in the future. " I love Supercross." Reed said. " I would have liked to go to Ame rica in 200 1. but you have to have a good ride to compete . The facto ry team in Europe was a much bett er offer than anything I got in America. but I still want to race Supercross in America in the future." Many in Australia rate both Reed and Metcalfe as potential candidates for being the next Leisk. Of course Byme has signed with Jeff Emiqs TheEdgeSports.com team for 200 1 in the USA. Speaking of which, Jeff Emig was in Bercy to assist Michael Byrne. The former King of Bercy is still very popular with the French. and his presence was a highlight of the weekend. It appears that Jere my McGrath and David Vuillemin will come together again at the German ro und of the World Supercross Championship on November 25 . McG rath will also race in England in November 18. "B ercy was just the start of my preper ation for the U.S. season. " said V uillemin. who has been stuck in Europe with visa troubles. "Steve Butler came to my house for a day. and we did some tes ting . Otherw ise. we came to Bercy not that prepared. Gary Se mic s. will also travel to Germany, which showsjust how import ant the European leg of the season is becoming. "Gary will fly over on November 25 ." McG rath said. " I'm going to be working hard. and I'm going to be ready. You can count on that. " South Af rican Grant Langston . the 125cc World M otocross Champion. finished the Bercy Supercross much as he did the W orld Supercross round a wee k earlier, crashing in practice and injuring his ste rnum. "I was riding okay, " Langston said. "Then, as I came into the tunnel, ! crashed. It was a stupid crash. I had most of the track pegged . and just hit the tunnel. I won 't ride for three week s. then I'll do the German round of the World Supercross and head straight to America after that. .. Steve Boniface (8) takes Eric Sorby (5) w ide during 125cc fin al ac tio n.
