Ma zur t oo k t h e c h eck ered flag wi t h a f ou r -s ec o nd lead and the moto win , with Cheney tak ing second , Hurd third , McPh ee fourth and J ohn Ryerson getting fi fth whe n he passed Frantz j ust before the finish li ne. Pereg rin got a nother great st art and led the pack th ro ug h the fi rst tum i n th e second moto , but Mc Ph e e qu ick ly passed Peregrin for the lead. Round ing out the top five we re Garre tt W ilson , C h en e y a n d F r an t z . McPhee quickl y began to pull aw ay . Ch ene y moved all the way up to sec ond , Wil son h eld th ird, Mazur w as fourth and Peregrin dropped to fifth. Aboa rd a new 2001 RM80 , McPh ee was gone by the end of the fi rst lap with a ni n e - seco nd advantage o n Ch en ey in second . Mazur and Hurd were now third and fourth, and Wil son fifth . Th e top four spread o ut and remained th e same all the way t o the chec ke red flag . The m ot o went in the record books as M cPhee , Ch en ey , Mazur, Hurd and John Ryerson , wh o just got by Wilson in the turn before CN th e fi ni sh line for fifth .
