Almost Germa n - in more ways than one - is Britain's historic Norton marque, now struggling to survive in the wake of the far cical AI Melling/V8 Nemesis 1500cc roadbumer debacl e. The one constant in the troubled British marque's roller-coast er ride ove r the past decade has been former German importer Joe Seifert 's retention of the rights to the Norton name in Continental Europe, plus his agreement with BMW for the supply of the German firm's Rotax-built single-cylinder F650 engine, which is precisely the kind of Y2K motor Norton might be building itself with the Manx name on the rocker covers, had it survived intact.
