And that's exact ly what h e d id, post in g a 1- 2 sco re in the 125cc Pro class at round fo ur of th e 2000 GF! Fall Series North. No rma n, who just tu rn ed Pro at th e start of th e serie s, made it clear early on that he would be a force to be reck oned with by taking his first ov erall win at round two. On th is day , am ong a t alented 10 -rider field , he came th rough once again. edgi ng out longti me Interm ediate-class rival Dav id Boo the , who a lso rec en t l y tu rn ed Pro . C l aw so n Motorsport s/Renthal/Wiseco-backed Booth e too k second with a 5 - 1 score. Th e m o rn ing sta r t ed o ff with a freakish , chilly fog bank that sudden ly engu lfed th e track at the start of practice. Goggles wer e be ing thrown left and right as r id ers strugg led to see through the m ist . By the end of practice, the fog lifted just as quickly as it had appeared , and the da y's 23 motos were run under blue skies. In moto one , Norman started off in fourth afte r Auggie Rodriguez put on a surprising charge to the front earl y on. Rodrigu ez was quickly j oined by Danny Palad ino, and after seve ral bar-banging cha llenges , Paladino too k over the lead. Boothe sat in third, and seemed to be the fastest rider on the track until he went down in a turn . Meanwhile , Norman steadily made hi s way toward the fro nt and overtook Paladino with a surprise m o ve on the inside of a b ig right-hand sweeper. Norman took th e win , while Paladino held off Rodriguez fo r second. Evan L a u g h r i d g e and Boothe rounded out the top five . "My start was horrible, but I ne ver gave up ,' said Norman. "After I got by A uggie, I had about two laps to go, and I figured I'd go for it . I caught Paladi no off gua rd when I passed him, because he to ld me he th ou ght A ug g ie was still behind him and he didn 't think Auggie could make that m ove." Norman rebo un ded wit h a solid ho leshot in moto two , ahea d of Cr aig Tru g li o , Paladino a nd L a u g h r id g e . While Norman tried t o o pen up a little gap , Boothe was gain ing ground fa st : by th e th ird la p, Booth e had m ad e his way up to N orman and was loo k in g for a pla ce t o pa ss. He chose a short t abl et op a n d m ad e a sp ec ta cul a r pass for th e lea d. He landed way out in th e fla t and did an amazing job of c o ntro lling h is bottomed -out Su zu k i to hold th e po sit ion . "I almost landed over th e berm , and I stalled the bike wh en I landed . Luckily , I bump-started it before anyone passed me. Th e whole rest of th e moto, I was afraid to pin it, because I was worried it wou ld stick again , but I managed to hold the lead to the end. ' Norman had to settl e for second . followed by Laughridge , Truglio and Palad ino . In the 250cc Pro class , Daniel Blair turned a th ird -place sc ore in moto o ne into an ov erall on th e day by wi n ning the all - important second m oto over Laughridge, who went 2 -2. Bla ir broke a three -wa y tie after Trug li o , who sc o red a w ire-to-w ire mote -one victory . fin ished third in moto two. Laughridge, who mirrored Trugl io th e entire first moto, nearly had the overall after making a late pass on Bla ir in moto two, but B l a i r countered qu ickl y and regained the l ea d two turns later. Then Bla ir turned it up a notch, taking the eventual win . Th e 125 Interm ediat e class featured a bizarre second moto, courtesy of a red-flag restart. While Ma tt McCrum m en b a re l y h e l d off Er i c Nye and Robert Harold for the win in m oto on e. McC rum m en had all ki nds of problems in m ot o tw o. A ft er getting a second p l a c e s tart b eh ind C h r i s Loredo, McC rummen looked poised to take an overall on the day, as Nye and Haro ld had gone down in the first tum . Bu t as the ri ders came around to start the I e n e vv s with McCrummen right beh ind. But on lap th ree, McCrummen went down and N ye continued on , eventuall y taking th e w in and the overall.
