Co lorado 's Ma tt Kar lse n wasn 't exactly the odds -on favor ite in the 125c c a nd 250 c c Pro events, but he managed to p ull out cha mpions hi ps in both classes . An dy Atki ns took ove r the lea d o n the first la p ou t of th e back section , with Fr a n c is in seco nd and Hal e in thi rd . Franc is to ok back his lead on lap th ree whe n he caug ht up to Atkins in the' back section. Beau Boynton raced in th ird , having suffered a n e ight h-plac e start. Two laps later, the lead c hanged ye t again when Atk ins sq uared off his corn er in th e switchbacks and crosse d into Bo ynt o n ' s path ; Boynton co uld no t avoid hitting him a nd knocked him down. O nce out front, Boynton he ld on for the win, with Francis in se co nd and Karlsen , wh o had ga ted sixth off the sta rt, in third . Blair Lively of Ark ansas s na re d th e seco nd -mota holeshot , b ut At k ins qu ickly took over the le a d on the first la p . Two lap s later, Ka rls en found himse lf in the lead . with Atk ins in second and Hale in third . Ha le mad e a la s t-l a p effor t for position and got around Atk ins to finish in th e ru nne r-up spot, fo llowed by Atkins an d Francis . Ka rlsen 's 3 -1 tall y ne tted h im the overall win , over Fr anc is (2 -4) and Hale (5 -2) . Munn Ra c ing's Derek Gerd e s fin is he d 4 -5 for fo urt h ove ra ll. Fi rs t -mota win ne r Boynton finis he d 16th. "I g o t a d e cent start ," Bo y n t o n sa id , "bu t I got a little a nx io us with Cory [Fran cis 1 and crash ed pretty h a rd a nd rip p e d off my glove. " Ok lahoma 's Chad Cook absconded with the ho leshot in the first 250cc Pro mota , but Francis le d the firs t four lap s. Ka rls en pressured Cook through the first lap and assumed second when Cook fell and then chased Fran cis down on la p five for the lea d . Ha le had a less - tha n -stel la r start but worked his way up to second a t the halfwa y ma rk and he ld the positio n at the finish line to Karlsen's win. In the second mota , KTM-mounted Ge rdes led off th e start and never looke d ba ck . Francis chased Gerdes for th e firs t two laps before Ka rlsen ove rtook him and held on to second a t c hec kered flag , whi c h was g ood e no u g h t o c la im the o ve r a ll w in .
