They ran side by side for the last four laps t o th e lin e, with Winsett gettin g th e nod by inc hes. Mullen got under Miller for the lea d at the end of the third lap , with Wood taking second. Th e Open r a c e w a s o pe n to any n on -P r o licensed rid er on any m ach in e above 125cc. John Lewis won the companion race for XR I OO-based machines up to 120cc. Second in both races went to J ared Mees, who is still lig ht enough to be com petitive on the lit tl e Hondas; except for starting from the pena lty lin e, he m ight have won the Open race. Before t h e C r umling Memorial Ope n rac e got started , t w o of the favor ites, Mees and Raun Wood, were sen t to the th ird line . B ill St illwell , Baer and Ray Keega n took ad vantage of being on th e fr ont row and took the top th ree spots off the second turn, with Ch ris K li nefelt er and Dillon Cava cl os e beh ind. Klinefelter and Wood we nt b y Keegan on the second lap, whi le Stillwell and Baer pulled away. On t he fo urth lap , Mees got roll in g and put the Michael's H- D Classics/ Moron ey 's H-D -sponsored Rotax into th ird , with Wood taking fourth the fo llowing lap. O nce in fro nt , he pu ll ed away from Stillwell , who was ca ugh t and fi na lly passed b y M ees on the 10th la p . Mees cut Beer's margin considerably but came up short. On his cool -down lap , Baer snapped his chain and coasted to the winner's circle . The XR class was another of Paul Cru mling 's favorites , and one of his close friends , Joe Dohm , br iefly grab be d the lead fro m Lewi s, Mees and M ar k St ambaug h. Dohrn 's lea d was sho rt -l ived, as Lew is went by at th e end of the op ening lap, and Mees followed on the following lap fo r sec ond . Lew is sta rt ed to pull away. Don n ie Mull en led the Sportsman fi nal out of th e seco nd tum, with Ricky W ins ett Jr. , M ees and Wo o d close beh ind . When Ma tthew Shuart crashed hard on the fou rt h lap , th e race was resta rt ed , with Mees leading Wins ett , Wood and Mull en . On th e next l ap , Win sett took th e lead off th e second tum and held on to it for the win . The 600cc A co ntest w a s mu ch closer. Mike Keane was the quickest of the older racers , taking the lead at the start of the Over 40 final from St ev e Heiser, Bruce Miller and Tom Norton. Zach O sbo rn e grabbed t h e early lead in the first 85cc Junior Mini (7 -1 1) moto, followed by Jake Gr iffis and Justin Sipes. Earl y on lap one, Sipes passed Gr i ff i s and then challenged Osborne for the lead . By lap two , Sipes had taken the lead. He went on for the m oto win, while Osbome remained in second and Griffis took third. Sipes led th e en ti re second moto fro m start to finish, with Osborn e taking sec ond and Griffis ag ain third. David A m es t ook th e front spo t in th e fi rst Su perm in i m oto, with Gr iffis secon d and Chad Helton next in line . Justin Sipes was ab ou t m idpac k off the ga te. By the second lap , Sipes had work ed his way into second and was chasing the lead er. Sip es dived t o th e inside of a turn to get by Griffis and ta k e the lead . Sip es pulled aw ay and took the win , followed by Griffis and Helton. A m es end ed up fift h. T he sec ond moto w ent t o Si pes, with Gr iffis and Helton in tow. Ames fi nis hed a di sappoin tin g eight h. Rya n Sipes made his debut on his 125 at the Daniel Boone facility , win ning both motos of th e 125cc B class . Doug E a rl s took the first-moto holeshot, chased by Aaron Stancil , J .T. Smith and Sipes. On the second lap , a b att le for second developed between Stancil and Sipes. Ryan moved by Stancil and then charged the leader, Earl s. By the third lap, Sipes had taken command . He won by five seconds over Earls , with Stancil third. A batt le for fourth developed between Sm ith and Matt Ble vin s on the fin al lap. Two turns before the checkers , Blevins got b y Sm it h to cl ai m fourth , and Smith had to settl e for fifth.
