I'm happy with the decisions I've made. I get 10 come out and see my buddies once in a wh ile, and then I get to have other weeke nds to myself or to spend with my family. I'm still undecided as to whether I'll come out and race once or twice next year, but do I want to come back and run for a championship? Probably not." Oth er than his blown shock, C eo Roeder II said that his setup never deviated from the one that he used to win his heat race. "The bike seems to be handling really good right now. " Roeder said after his heat wi n. " I don 'I know , it looks like it might get too rough, but then again, I don't know if that could ever happen. It' s more to my liking every time. It' s rough, but like my dad always to ld me, 'The rougher it is, the faster you go , the smoother it is.' " After finishing fourt h in his heat race to put the inaugural W renchead.com National Dirt Track Series title out of Jay Springsteen's reach, Chris C a rr commented that he was relieved at not having to race for the championship in the main events . " It's just really rough out there." Carr said. " The lights are going out when yo u get sprayed in every comer, and it's about a foot deep ." Despite that fact that the new champ was critica l of the track surface , Carr did offer some friendly words for the new series . "They 've got a lot of areas that need improv ement. but they also have a lot of areas where they excelled. I think that their class structure has proven that it works, with the National class having differe nt brands, and especially with Pro Singles having all those different brands. I think that class structure is a sign of good things for the future of dirt track . They [Sf)(] have obviously proven that they can put butt s in the seats , especially here on the Wes t Coast. W e just need some bette r racet racks - not necessarily better facilities, because we have been to a bunch of those - but better racetracks so that we can put on a bette r show for these people ." As for the future, Chris C a rr said that while he does not regret his decision commi t to the Formula USA series in 2000, the future is wide open. " I've never loo ked at this as a Formula USA vs . A MA deal," Carr said. "I want to be able to compete in both series, not just one or the othe r. I want to see both succeed, but I think both have some room for improveme nt. I think that if you took the best of what this series had to offer and the best of what the A MA had to offer and combined them, the n you would have so mething t hat people other than the purist s [w ould watchl. That's the name of the game, to get new people in the stands and to get the m seeing us on telev ision. But for me. right now , I'm not even thinking about next year. I have already had discussions with Mi ke Shatt uck and Kenny Tolbert , and we are ready to go racing in 2001 . We just need to see what the schedules are and what the opportunities are. And we need to put the sponsorship package s together to make it work ." .Ja y Sprin gsteen has been having a good time bumming around the West Coas t for the past couple months, but the Springer says that he is ready 10 go home. " Me and [wife] Judy went camping by the river a couple times, and we did some fishing. And we have been hanging around [tuner] Jim Kelly's shop gett ing everyth ing done . But man, after eight weeks , I am ready to go home . I don't care if it is snowing in Michigan right now . There's no place like home." Schnabel commented that. at times, he saw Parker actually reaching down with his left hand to actually pick his leg up and place it back on the footpeg . Parker later made light of it. bringing up all the times that Schnabel has looked after him. "That' s right. my foot kept sliding off the peg there. which reminds me that I need to have that peg looked at because the rubber might be coming off of it." Parker said. " I'm glad that Schnabel reminded me, so thank you again, Schnabel. He' s always got birthday presents , Chri stmas present s for me. That was probably just an early birthd ay present. That 01' Schnabel. he's right on to p of tt." Parker was referring to a series of incidents in the past three seasons where he has been able to ca pitiali ze on purely coincidental scenarios that have involved the young W isconsinite , such as the time at the 1998 Las Vegas Half Mile when Schnabel had the last transfer spot in a semi and could have eliminated Parker from the title race, only to slip wide and allow Parker to take the transfer spot and, ultimately, the championship." Will D avis loo ks to be happy with his current team situation, and the Nort h Carolinan is practically a sure bet to stay put for 2001 . " I'm really happy, other than getting hurt . " Davis said. "We know that pretty much everywhere we we nt. we had a chance to win - except when we have come to California. That was motocross, motocross. motocross. three weeks in a row. I ain't a motocros ser , but when we come to the dirt track races , we feel that we can run with anyone, and I'm real pleased about that. " Ditto for Ric h K in9 , and it would be aweful tough for the Iowan to not have that feeling, seeing as how he has the Harley-Davidson factory ride. " I think that we have wo rked out a lot of things, and I think that we will work out a few more minor details over the winter. " King said. " I' m pumped . I haven't signed anyt hing yet. but I want to be back on the team, and I think they want me back . I'm loving this." As for having Sco tt Parker as a teammate throug hout the 2000 seeson, King joked: "Yeah, we ll, you have to deal with some obstacles here too .· Tim e: 5 min.. 27.468 sec.
