By the time the class hit the woods, Hytinen had moved up to th ird place, and on the ne xt stra ight sectio n , he pa ssed Valley Kawasak i rider Robert Wagner to m o v e into second and t h en set h i s sights on Morrison. Du ring th e seco nd lap. Hyt in en seized an o ppo rt uni t y to take t he lead from Morrison o n a straight, but he fell victim to th e infamous t raffic jam at the m ud sec ti o n, where Morrison took a better li ne to rega in hi s lead. Hytinen ca ught up to Mo rrison on the dirt track and made a q u i c k pass before h ead ing into the woo ds, m aint ain ing first place up to the finish. Morrison took second at the bar rels, and Wagner came in th ird . T he Supermin i, M in i and Women riders proved how to ug h th ey were by ta king on th ree la ps of th e same 6 mile tra c k . Virginia Championship Hare Scrambles Series Round 8: The Rattlesnake Hare Scrambles Greer Takes a Bite Out of the Rattlesnake By H E A T H E R G RE E R WYTHEVILLE, VA, AGG. 20 ft er spending several weeks trail rid ing and enjoying an unu sually m ild Virginia summer, rid ers were glad to be back at the races for the eig hth round of the Virginia Championship Hare Scra m b les Series . Man y ri ders took advantage of the Saturday practi ce session, wh ich gave th em a limited introduction to a track that was quite varied. The start of the 6 -mile co urse was the pit section of a dirt flat track, which riders sped aro und befo re dart ing into the woods . Although there was lots of wideopen . dusty trail, ma ny riders were held up at a fa irly gnarly mud section tha t separa te d the true hill cl imber s fro m those who waited in line at th e bott om . Greer took advantage of the fire road s and wi de tra ils, keep ing the throttle wi de o pen , and set u p a m in ute lead by the fir st la p .
