Swan Cycle Park hosted the first of the five events , to the tune of 73 7 e ntered racers on a very hot and dry weekend that was part of one of th e worse heat waves in Texas history. James Mar shall got in the h u n t and passed McFly by the end of th e first lap and went after Miller, passing him a t th e top of lap two in the whoop section. Smith maintained the lead and rode a smooth race to th e finish line , with Marsha ll a nd Miller in tow . Joe Bailey Jr . s uffered a le ss -t ha n -s te lla r sta rt b ut was ab le to ca tc h th e fro nt -run ners o n th e last la p, mo ving up from eig ht h to finish fo urth a t t he check ere d flag .
