Fisher wo und up finishing sevent h in the first Pro Si ngle s heat race. with the top six goi ng straight into the main event and the LCQ being cancelled due to the acce lerate d prog ram. The new bike that Ryan Fisher rode at Sacramento was actually a prototype for what may become a new entry into the afte rmarket 600cc chassis mar ket. Built by longt ime San Di ego-ar ea flat tr acker John Du pree. the Vecto r Racing Frame is said to incorp orate so me o f the best ideas of several diff eren t chas sis. according to Dupree. " I'm still learning a lot of the design part of it." Dupree said. "I have to give Ron Wood a lot of credit for this projec t. I love his swingarm design for its ease of serv icing, and I also like the single-shock design like the C&Js, so I'm just pick ing up bits and pieces from here and there." Dupree said that he has no desire to take any or ders fo r his frames until he is 100 -per cent satisfied that they have been cpmp lete ly refined. Form er Grand National campaigner and A MA 250cc Grand Prix road race cham pio n Jimmy Filice was spott ed crui sing the pits at Sacramento, and he wan ted to make it clear that he was not looking for a ride. "Tonight' s racing was great. but I wish someone had been able to give Rich a little more compet ition. " Despite the fact that he had a perfectly good-wor king XR750 in the pits. .Joe Kopp continued to log time aboard his Corbin Racing Suzuki TL 1000 in the hope that he could sort the bugs out of it on a grooved track . Early on in the night. it wasn 't looking so good for the Seattle Mile winner. " l'rn having a litt le bit more trouble getting it hooked up on this surface ," Kopp said. "I 'm j ust having a hard time keeping it from breaking loose too much going in. I'm about ninth on it right now . - Kopp refused to abandon the bike, however. " I told myself I'm going to ride this all night unless I wind up in the Last Chance Qualifier and I haven't made it yet. Then I'll probably get on the Harley. - Kopp earned a direct transfer to the main event by getting second. behind King. in heat two. Of course, he repeated that performance in the main eve nt. rnakIng It anothe r good night for Suzuki. J.R. "It' s incon sistent . but it's not supe r rough." Schnabel said . "Still, I'm a litt le bummed that they je rked around as long as they did because the crowd was watch ing practice when we should have been racing. I feel bad for the fans. We can deal with this because we know what happened, but it' s hard to explain it to them." N ick y H ayde n wa s making his Formula USA deb ut at t he Sacramento Mile. and the Kentucky-based road racer immediately got everyone' s att ention by sett ing a fast time of 38 .602 seconds in the timed qualifying session s. "We have talked about it a litt le bit," Hayden said. "They really don't have a lot as far as bikes and stuff . They got rid of everyt hing, so to go back and start making parts again wo uld be so expensive. But who knows ? I wo uld like to ride Hondas. I enjoy riding Harleys. but I am a Honda guy. If I could put a deal togeth er to ride Hondas. I would like that. but either way. I am go ing to ride so me dirt tracks again next year because I love it. I really love the challenge of it. and I believe that it has helped me w ith my road racing." I knew that this lsplitl was com ing for a while, and it really is best for me because riding a 750 is my number-one priority ." P aul Lyn c h parked his ow n bike in favor of a ride on a Skip Fordyce Harley-Davidson. the former sponsors of Billy Martin . "B ob Herrick and Skip asked us to bring one of their bikes out west for them after Springfield. so we' re going to try it out for a couple races and then see w hat happens fro m there ," Lynch said.
