S un d a y morn ing , Farrell sai d, "We had a few challenges this morning . After tha t we 've been t ruckin ' . Barring a ny other unp la nned events , we s ho uld be all right." They fin ished in sixth with 72 la ps . S ev en th p la c e Pro s Eron Bo yer , Chu ck McBurne y , Er ic Wolfe a n d Mike Hart we re also Husqvarna 610 mounted . At 7 :30 p.m ., Boyer said, "I do n 't want to jinx it but we 've had a re a l good race th us far. No rea l major problems." This was Boyer's first night race . He explained the experience sa ying , "Yo u kind of get in your own litt le world . It' s a lot easier to focus , not a lot of other things to look at. " A team that showed that the young are not always th e fastest wa s the over 40 - year -old Dirt Rider/Wh ite Bro t h e rs / Ke e b le r- b a c k e d team o f Ron Lawson , Gary Jon es, Tom Webb, Bob Rutton , Brent Wa llingsford and Dan LaPorte. At 8 :30 a .m ., afte r 22 and a ha lf hours of bikes abusing the track , J on e s offered a un ique perspective: "The tra ck 's getting bette r and better. It's got berms and ou ts ide e dge s now . T he o nly place it's gett ing wo rse is the sa nd wa sh , lots of rocks. The rest of it is better. " Fo r the second ye a r in a row , th e team that appeared to have th e most fun was the XR100 -mounted team of Mike Bierman, Bo b Maxwell, Matt S t o ute n bu rg , Bryce Oxley and Eri c Bie rm a n . New to XR100 racing was Senior Exp ert Maxwe ll. "T h o s e litt le b ike s a re so m uc h fun , " exc lai m e d Ma xwe ll. "I don 't know if I ev e n want to do it on a big bike . I've had nothing but fun . However, at th e en d of th e 24 hours , it was difficult to find anyone who wa s e ag er to get on a b ike an y time s oon .
