American Suzuk i' s Ridd le headed eve ry 125 cc A and 2 50 cc A mo to and pock eted more th an $800 of the Victory Sports Pro pu rse. Thi s ye a r, t h e Tennessee Stat e Champion ships drew a record entry ot well ov er 90 0 rid ers, forcing qualifiers in t he Unlim ited Mini , 12 5cc B and 125cc C divis ions. The class lists read like the Eastern vers ion of Lor etta's, and m an y fast riders did not qua lify to rid e th e second motos on Sunday. Neese was nipped in the 125c c A contest by Reed, who had absco nded with Saturday ' s Pro Cash Dash ov er Fl o r i d a ' s Clint She aly . The to p five spots were fill ed out by Th orn v ill e, O hio 's Jeff Gibs on and local talent Hans Neel. Th e first 250cc A st art was wild . Hodges snared th e ho leshot but th en got together with Lusk , Jered Bl ack and K ev in Bl alock . Ridd l e sli p pe d through on the inside t o take th e lead wh ile the rest of the pack scr ambled to avoid t he me ss . Suzuk i 's Ronn i e T icheno r completely left th e track via the tum -on e sawdust pile but recov ered to finish fourth. Neese and Reed placed second and th ird , with Gib son and Tom Kelley fifth and sixth. Neese shouldered past th e field to round tum on e in front on the second round start and set a blistering pace for Reed, T ichenor and Riddle. Recovering from a seventh -place start. Riddle was coming up fa st . Halfway through lap two, Riddle passed T ichenor coming down the stairsteps. Three turns lat er, Reed was dropped a position as well . Neese held off Riddle until late in the race , when the Kentu ck y rid er p o wer ed into t he lead on the long, rough straight at the bottom of th e stairs. Though Neese stayed close, with Ti chenor moving up as well, Rid dle gave his wrist another twist and went to Warp Seven . Reed took fourth , ahead of Gibson. Robe rt K in iry , fr esh fro m a w eekend sw ee p at the New York State Champi on sh ips , fo u nd himself teamed with Ryan Sipes, ped aling hard fi rst to catch Stewart and then to sta y ahead of him, but to no ava il - Ste wart lapped th em , too. Nic k Evennou of Kens ington , Ma ryland , pull ed th e Un lim it ed M in i hol eshot on Sunday and qui ckly found himself swarmed by Stewart, Kin iry , Sipes and Donny McGourty. Ev ennou bettered his Saturday's midpack finish with a fifth -place finish on Sunday, for 14th overall. Kiniry and Sipes notched third and fourth overall , breat hing down the neck of runner-up McGourty. Matt Boni of Oviedo, Florida , fin ished seventh overall , afte r Jesse Zambon of Bark River , M ichigan, and also took the 85 cc ( 12- 13) win with 1-2 fin ish es, ahead of Kyle Chi sholm (3- 1). I e n e _ s In Satu rda y 's 85cc (7- 1 1) c lass, J ust in Sip es (Ry an 's brother) battled Za c h O sborne and Ric k y Renn er. Osborne snared the holeshot, covered by Sipes and Renner. Blasting into th e wood s section, Renner suckered Sip es at th e entr ance and launched a double into t he t iming whoops . Caught by surprise . Sipes lost j ust enoug h mil lisecon ds to get stuck pla ying catc hup for the rest of the moto. Howe ver, Sip es lost no more ground to Renner . who sta yed glued to Osbo rne 's fender, and the trio put nearly a straightaway on J ak e Griffis, in fourth .
