Pec sok then us ed the nex t two laps to find his way into third, only to drop out of the race agai n when he lost his clutch. A tiring Hendry, who retu rn e d last year after s pend ing thr e e yea!s living a nd racin g in South Africa , a tte mpted to ree l in Phelan , but to no avail. Ph elan took the checkers by a co mfortable m a rgin a hea d of He nd ry , with Luhrs , Lyn c h a nd Hutton rounding out the top five. "I d idn 't g et a rm p u m p , but m y uppe r a rm s a nd s hou ld e rs ju st ga ve out in the clo s ing laps a nd I 'co uld n't keep up with Chris' pace ," exp la ine d th e 17 -ye a r-o ld Hendry. Honda -m ounted Da vid Hill sto le the holeshot in moto two but was qui ck ly overtaken by Hendry a nd Phelan two corners later. Hend ry contro lled th e first po rtion of the moto a s Phelan kept with in p o u n c in g d ist an c e . Afte r a s ixth-place start, Zeck was attempt ing to bus t into the to p five when his Su zuki got o ut of shape while round ing a corner, a nd he hit the turf. After being clipped by a couple of close followers, l ee k retired to th e pits. Lync h moved up from a fifth -p lace start to th ird by midmoto, with Hutton slipping into fourth. Hill had his ha nds fu ll b attl in g Rya n Morga n for fifth . He nd ry pulled ah e ad by a few sec o nd s for some br eathing room on Phe la n . Lynch and Hutton battled in tig ht form a tion five seconds back for th ird . Luhrs passed Fe at he ring ill and kn oc ked Hill a nd Morg an back a spot as well by jum p ing into fifth . Lynch experie nced a flat front tir e wit h a coupl e of laps remaining , sending the Kawa s a ki rider back to n inth. With just over one la p to go , Phe la n o u tj u m ped Hen d ry as the two la un c h e d ou t of the lo we r riverbed s ection at the north e nd of the tra ck a nd d uc ked insi de on t he fo llowing left -ha nded corner for the lead. Phe lan he ld on for the rema ining laps fo r a clean sweep , as Hendry locked up a s o lid secon d ov era ll. Luhrs, who a lso finish e d a he ad of Hut to n for the overall in th e S c hoo lboy class , got pa s t Hutton fo r th ird o ve ra ll.
