In the 2 50cc Pro heat, Curt Kn itt, o n his 250cc Kawasaki, led from start to finish. Beyer co mm ente d on the speed of his co m petitor's mount, then went to work and put two more teeth on the back sprocket, and shot off the line lik e a rocket, hug ging the ins ide po le and taking the shortest route to victory around th e loose track on his A ppleton Yama ha-sponsored two-stroke. Rick Br et! and Rand y Triplett mixed It up in the first Op en Pro heat . B ret! held th e point unt!1 hal f-d ista nce, wh en Triplett used a highlow line thro ugh turn s three and four to m ak e the pass for th e lead on his AI M ut h H·D 600. Beyer charged off th e li ne in th e sec ond heat and ra c ed up t o t he c ush io n, but B ob Ybema hooked up his Import Spe cialists Rotax 600 down on th e bottom, ran Beyer down and took a shocking vic tory.
