Sephton, who had a massive drive off fou r, blew through the ap ex and parked , letting Larsen and McBride pull b~ . Coming int o turn three , j\'\cBride seem ed to have an advantage over Lars en, but th e Californ ian had the momentum to take the lead. At the rear, Sephton tri ed everythi ng to get past Nelson , but nothin g worked. La r sen pull ed out t o a co m fo r t ab le l ead f o r th e win , wi t h McBride ta king a very respectable second . Nelson held off the charging Seph ton, and Bonsignore finished fifth . T he lineup for the Ha ndicap ma in had J ason Bonsignore on the inside of the 40, w ith Gary Hesm er in two and Gene Bon sign ore in thr ee. Cra ig Estelle was on the 50, with McBride on the 70 an d L ar sen all t he way b ac k in th e "Moon Chute" on th e 80. Gene rolled before the t apes moved, but he was once agai n all owed to resum e his original pos ition . Wh en th e t ap es finally we nt up , J aso n quickly assumed the lead , with Hesm er falling into second. C om in g out o f t urn t w o , Hesmer parked, allowing Gene to close. Coming into tum three, Larsen passed both Estelle and McBride and set his sights on the fro nt of the pack . Comi ng out of fo ur on the second lap, Hesmer dr ifted, letting Gene undernea th to take secon d. By the start of lap three, Larse n ha d closed the gap and was putting p ressu re o n the th ird - p l ac ed rider. Com ing into turn one, Hesm er hesitat ed slig htly, and that was all it took . L a r sen drove by and went to work catching the Bon sign ores. Larsen trie d t o make his way p ast Gene . At the start of lap fo ur, Larsen looked to the o utside but th en sq ua re d the co rne r and pu ll ed t o the inside o f th e elder Bon sig nore, almost riding on the infield grass. Coming int o turn three, Gene hit the ground, end ing up ju st off the race lin e as Larsen sped off. Had there been contact? If th ere had been, th e referee d idn 't see it, and the race continued wi th Larsen now putting the pressure o n J aso n . Gene got t o his fee t and stor med away, leaving his bike on the track. On th e last lap , Larsen con tin ued to close on Jason, but time ra n o ut. Jason Bonsignore crosse d th e line fi rst , wi t h Larse n a close second. McBride took third, with Este lle fourth and Hesm er fift h . Gen e Bon si gn ore walked off the t rack , having some words w ith the referee on his way back to the pits. O n the Support side of the program, Joel Parsons took his second straight Support-class w in , this time in the A division. In Support B , Jim Fey found his way to th e checke red eN flag first. Yamaha Dealers Series Round 5: Glen Helen Raceway Park Blose With the Most B y B ET H L AR O C K SAN BERNARDINO, CA, JULY 16 he hot d ays of sum me r in Southern California di dn 't stop the riders from attend ing the fifth and final ro und of the Yamaha Dealers Series at Glen Hele n Raceway. Ride rs in all classes battle d to th e end for series poi nts and for their sponsoring dea lerships. M oto t wo started off clean , with Dun c an , Morr is on and Memoli i n po sition s o ne through three. Dun c an , Morriso n and Mem oli we re unable to restart. Lead in g the secon d- mo te rest a rt was B lo se, fo llowed b y 14-16 rider Nathan Salgado and 12- 13 rider Sean Borkenhagen . Mom f, Dad/Thousand Oaks -backed Blo se dom inated the moto fr om start to finish, also taking the overall for the 12 -13 class . Salga do claimed second in the m oto and firs t in the 14- 16 class . Bork enh agen crossed the fi nish line th ird . with a second-pla ce finish in the 12 -13 age g roup. Twelve-yea r -old Blose was jazzed with th e win . Glen Helen Ra c ew ay Park: On his way to the 80cc (12-13) victory, Chris Blose (52) leads Sean Borkenhagen (86), who was the class series winner, and Nathan Salgado (17), who won the 80cc (14-16) class, at the fift h and final round of the Yamaha Dealer Series in San Bernardino, California. The combined gate of 80 cc (4 - 1 1), ( 12- 13 ) and (14 -16) classes featu red some very talented ride rs in exciting competition. In the 14 -16 divi sion , "T hat was pretty easy : said Blose proudly. T he Senior Novice seri es title was New Champion Speedway Owego, New York Results: July 15, 2000 Charlie Morri son and Tyl er Duncan led t he field through th e holeshot turn . Close beh ind was Robe rt Mem o li , riding in the 4-11 class , and Chris Blose, riding in the 12- 13 age group. M orrison an d Dun c an ea c h p o s sessed the lead severa l ti mes durin g the moto. Although Glenn Shearer claimed th e series win , Montclai r Ya ma ha m ech anic Jim Harris dominated the cl a ss c o m pe t it i o n during the fin al round of the seri es. Harris seized the fi rst- moto holeshot, with Robert Rip ley , David Hass ell and Sh earer in tow. She ar er c a p t u re d th e number -tw o p o siti o n ea r ly i n th e m ot o a n d appea re d to be closing in o n Harri s. " On e more lap and I wou ld have had him," Shearer laughed at the fin ish line. "But I'm sure you hear that all the tim e." Shearer held the lead fo r the first lap of the sec o nd moto , bu t Harris qu i c kl y t o o k c o n t rol. Sten tz got a much better sta rt and ran th ird . Har ris , Sh earer and St entz qui c kl y dis t an c ed themselves fro m th e res t -of the p ack . The three riders crossed the fi nish li ne m ore tha n 3 0 sec onds in fro nt of th e fourth- p laced rid er. "It was getting hot o ut there," Har ri s said . " It' s too hot o ut h e re , " Sh ea rer agreed . " I wanted to go out in first place, bu t at least we got the points ." N atio nal Pro Phil Law renc e paid a surprise visit to th e Dealers Series, following a lo n g sabbatica l due t o sho u lde r surge ry . Law ren c e said he hopes to race the last fo ur National s. " T h at' s why I' m out here ra cin g to day : he ex pla ined. "Just being off all year, I' m hu ng rier to rid e t han I have been f or the last four years . I j ust wa nt to race." Lawrence and Joh n Burr Cycles' Terry Fowler battled in the 250cc Pro class . Fow ler cha llenged Lawrence in both motos, but Lawrence was dom inant.
