LOS BANOS, CA, JULY 15
Yam ah a-mounted Brand on Jones was on a
m ission at th e Los Bano s Fa ir grounds, and
when he left , he left branded a winner after
co m pleting his mission, taking both m ota vic tori es in th e 125cc intermediate cla ss during
CMA Bounty Hunter Series racing acti on .
Du rin g the first 125cc Intermediate m oto ,
J one s got into it right away with both 250cc
Int ermed iate-class winner Billy Jurevich and
hard -charging Robert Harold , on hi s Ed g e
Sports-prepared Yamaha.
Jon es took th e m easure of Ju revi ch , wh o
later had problems and dropped to th ird , whi le
Harold held tight to second.
In the seco nd moto, a fierce battle erupted
between J ones and Jurevich. Th e two wen t
head to head down every straight and through
eac h turn. The hea ted batt le kept the cro wd
on it s toes and the pa rents chewi ng th eir fi n gernails as the two future Pros rac ed side by
side righ t down to th e fi nal tu rn . Jones took
the victory, aide d by hi s ability to pass som e
of the slower Pro ri de rs, who had started on
th e fir st wav e, during the fi nal lap. By doing
this , Jones was able to use them as blo ck ers
betw een himself and Jurevi ch through th e
fin al few sect io ns of the course to secure the
vi cto ry . Harold looked a bit tig ht in this moto ,
but he was sti ll able to salvage third. in front of
J .R. Ar chutowski and Dylan Vich a.
AC Racin g-ba c ked David M ead e swep t
both 50cc (7 -9 ) and 6 0cc (0-8 ) B eg inner
cl asses, wi nni ng all four motos of co mpetition .
Th e Sou thern California rider said he found
th e racing in N orthern Ca lifornia t o be a
refres hing change an d the riders to be som e of
the very best,
Oustin Pipes, an other top local Mini racer ,
had a ni ght of ups and downs. First he won
the first Bncc Nov ice moto, ahead of heavy
favorite Broc Ow ens. Then he cra shed and
flew over the handlebars in m oto two and had
to be taken to a nearby hospital fo r stitches
after gashing his nose .
"Well, I was riding good tonig ht , but my
bike k icked m e ov er th e tabletop ," Pipes
recounted . " I had to get eight stitches, but 1
think I can still race some m or e tonight. "
However, Pipes did sit out th e rest of the
nig ht , while Owens went on to earn the 80 cc
Novice-class vi ctory, in front of Andy 0 ' Arrigo
and Bea u Wiega nd.
Craig Tru glio was the night's top Pro racer,
winni ng both the 125cc and 250 cc Pro classes
with a fo ur- moto sweep. Truglio also had the
ho nor of gelling t he last pick in the Bounty
Hunt er race - an honor reserv ed for the racer
with the night' s fast est lap times. Truglio did
not seem worried, however, and passed his way
th rou gh the night's 15 fastest racers to score a
jackpot in excess of $700. T rug lio's five m ote
wi ns gave him the honor of the night's win ningest racer - and one of the riche st.
