All of Stewart' s wins thus far have come in mini racing, while one of Carmichael's came on a 125, so Stewart is on pace to break the record next year. Stewart's year-2000 crowns came In 85cc (14-15) Modified and Supermini (competitors are only allowed to contest two classes per year), and they represent his final mini races in the U.S. (the Mini des Nations in Germany will be his last mini race ever). Stewart won both cl asses easily, taking all three motos of each in convincing fashion. "I went out on top: said Stewart in the winner's circle, where he wore a pair of Oakley'S strange new Over the Top sunglasses that will debut on sprinters in the Sydney Olympic Games. "Six of six [moto wins]. That was my plan for the weekend, and I think that's the best way I can end it." Other two-class winners at Loretta Lynn's included Mike Alessi in 85c c (7-11) Stock and 65cc (10 -11 ) Stock , Ben Riddl e in 250cc/Ope n A and 125cc A, and former professional circuit regular Ronnie Tichenor in Vet A Pius-30 and Plus-25. In addition to his two championships, Suzuki-rider Riddle was the winner of the AMA Horizon Award, which recognizes a rider who is on the verge of making the transition from amateur to pro. Winning the Cy cle New s Brass Brain Award was Indiana's Shawn Clark. This award recognizes riders who perform well both in the classroom and on the track, and Clark was th e hands-down winn er with a 3.89 grade-point average, along with second- and third -overall finishes in 85cc ( 12-13) Stock and 85cc (9-13) Modified, respectively.
