The Yam aha duo of Sco tt Co le and " Pr in c e ss" Leya Crav ens o n a Yamah a placed a very c los e second. Ryan Fish er sat alone o n th e 40 , and Robert Curry was on th e 30. A ft er a slight delay (no less th an three of th e 50 -yard ers w ere restaged afte r rolling th e st art) , th e night 's busiest ra c e got under way w ith Curr y t ak in g th e earl y lead fro m th e front. Far ia was th e fi rst away fro m th e ba ck, bu t he op ted fo r th e l o w insid e lin e , wh ich a llo we d Hedden to go to th e o utside dirt and hamm er on th e thro ttle. By th e time the four riders were strai g hte ned up and push ing eac h ot her down th e back stra ight, Bast had a fir m grip on th e lead , and he was o n hi s way to hi s first m ain ev ent wi n of the seaso n. "This race pl ayed out just as I saw it in m y head before th e race," said Bast after his victory. "I knew Charlie wo uld probably get a good start, and I figured if J osh got a j u m p off t he pol e , he would have to deal with him and go for the block , which would op en things up for me , and th at's j ust what happened . I did th e same th ing to win th e National a coup le of years ago at Costa Mesa." Th e Stell Roof ing/Metro / Pipe r- backed Ki llebrew had to hold off T ro y Kalina an d Bra ndon Schlensig . Paul Bowman scored a 1- 1 to win the Ov er 30 Junior class , whil e Tim Johnson (3- 1) garn ered the overall in the 25 0cc Ju nior cla ss. Ki llebrew pulled th e ho leshot in the fi rst m oto , followed by Kalina , Taylor Glantz and Schl ensig. Schl ensig moved b y G l an t z on t h e sec ond l a p a nd cha rged up to th e 250-mounted Kali na. K illebr ew opened up a ga p, but by the latt er laps he start ed to slip back . "I saw th at Killebrew was tr y ing to double in to th e wh o op s an d was K m essi ng up c o m i n g o u t o f t hem , " sai d Sch len sig. Hamby got a bett er drive co m ing o ut of th e corner and th en took away Parr 's line and positio n. Hamby ste ad ily pu ll ed away fro m the pack . Johnson m oved by Sch auweck er for fift h as they cam e back onto the front stra ig ht. Then Parr went down. Taylor got hung up trying to get aro und the fa llen rider, allowing Lynch and Johnson into second and third . On th e next lap, Tay lor ca ught back up to Johnson and Lyn ch . On the white -flag lap , T ayl or passed Johnson at the fin ish -lin e tabletop j ump. Then, in th e n ex t co rne r j u st b ef o r e th e whoops , T aylor shifted into neutral and Joh nson w ent bac k aro u nd . Hamby crossed th e fi n is h line 12 sec ond s ahea d of second- p lace d Lyn ch. J ohn son was th ird, fo llowed by Taylor, Parr, A aron Bail ey and Joel Sch nu ry el. Du r ing t h e p a rad e lap , Hamb y 's borrowed bik e suff ered a m echanica l problem, dimming his cha nc es at th e ov erall. Scott Ric h t ook the second -mot o holeshot but wa s ov ertaken by Parr, Johnson and Lyn ch by the second co rner. Bailey and Sch auw eck er also got by Rich on the fir st lap . Parr and Johnson w ent at it f o r fo ur l a ps. T ay l o r passed Rich for sixth. Parr loo k ed to have the m oto win in hand as th e white flag c a m e ou t. T h en , as th e leaders ca me int o the infield section, Parr took th e faster outside lin e w hile J ohnson ca m e up th e inside. Johnson drove out of the corn er bett er th an Parr and took over first and held on for th e win, with Parr sec ond and Lynch th ird. In th e fi r st Ov er 30 Jun io r m oto , Ta yl or had the lead init ially , fo llowed by Eric Renfried. The n T im Wussow went by both Renfr ied and Taylorfor the lead. Taylor regained the lead ove r the finis hline jump. Th en Wussow , with a better drive through th e whoo ps, regained th e lead. Bowman got und ern eath , fo rcing Ta ylor to go wid e in the first com er, and pas sed for second . Then B o wm an passed Wussow on the back str aight. A lap l ate r , Tay lor passed Wussow fo r sec ond. Th e pos itions remained the same for the last thr ee laps, with Bow man in first, fo llow ed by Ta ylor, Wus sow , Richard Shumate and Bob Miklos. In the sec ond moto, Bowman was in front aft er lap o n e, followed by Wussow, Renfried , Shumate and Tay lor. Tayl or passed both Shumate and Renfried for third. Shumate sli d out on the infield l eft -han der , letting Shaun Ro bert b y . On t h e f ina l l ap , Robert pa sse d Renfri ed for fourth . Bowman fin ished fir st, fo llowed by Tayl or , who passed Wussow o n the fin al lap , and CN th en Rob ert and Renfried.
