" I was behind Kevin and m y foot caug ht a rut and tw isted the ankle, so I ha d to let go for a co up le of laps b e c au s e I felt sore, " To rtelli expla in ed . Positions up front st ayed the same fo r a while but had spread ou t consid erab ly , w ith C arm i cha el l e adi n g Windham by about fi ve sec onds, and Windham about th e same o ve r Tortel li , wh o had ro ughly 12 sec onds on LaRocco. F i n i sh i n g f ifth in th e m o t o was F er ry , who - after pa ss ing Albertyn o n the second lap - did an o utstand i n g j o b k ee p in g the f ormer World Champion b eh in d him f or m o st o f moto. " I ha d a p retty good battle w ith Albee," Ferry said. "I got the best of him, and I'm pretty happy ab out th at. He passed me in th e firs t c oup le of turns, I passed him bac k , and then he ca me back fro m abo ut fo ur second s behi n d me and pa ssed me b a c k again. I finally got back by him, and h e w as ho llering at m e ov er some jumps and stuff. It was pretty cool." Finishing a d istant seventh behind Al bertyn was Re ynard , who p rett y much ran alone there the entire race . Som e of the c lo sest racing of the m ot o took p lace well behind Reynard , involving King, Dowd , Ward and Huffman. Fo r m uch of th e race, Ward and Dowd battled ba ck a n d forth until Ward go t by him fo r go od . Th en Ward had Huffm an t o deal with . A few laps fr om th e end. Huffman got around Dowd and th en Ward , w ho made a last-lap charge o n the Suzuki rider but just could n ot get ba ck aro und him . K yl e Lew is, finishing in 11th p lac e, was the top privateer of the m oto on his Moto XXX -ba cked Su zuk i. Vo ss, o n hi s Gr eat La k es A viation Ho nd a , dropp ed back to 13 th after his good sta rt, and he was foll ow ed ac ross th e fin ish lin e by Plan et Hond a' s Isa iah J ohnson , Dr. Med sk er/Tom M o rg an Racing ' s Jame s Povo ln y Jr. , AM Leo na rd KTM ' s Ryan T er le cki and C a nno ndale ' s K eith J ohn son . Both A l b ert y n a n d Vuille min ha d gone down . "l had las t p ick o f the gate and had a good ru n d ow n the second straightaway," Vu ill em in said . " So mebody crashed, I braked and everybody passed me. I go arou nd, three corners after tha t, somebody crashed in front m e and I ran into h im and I was last. " Albertyn said . " I came around the second turn , went rea lly wide, k ept it pinned and actua lly mad e up ab out 10 pla ces . And then th ere wa s k ind of a bottleneck and eve ry body sto pped .
