An informal survey of my friends revealed tha t I'm not the only off-roader who has long wanted to ride in Baja but neve r gotten around to it. Most dirt riders, it seems , entertain thoughts of hitting the trails and dirt roads in Mexico. Unfortunately, doing so on your own can be a bit of an undertaking, especially if you live far away and /or aren 't familiar with the proper routes. Baja Bound takes the worry and gue sswork out of riding in Baja, handling all of the complica ted logistics and leaving you to concentrate on enjoying yourself. Trail boss TIm Morton has raced on the penn insula for years, and he 's a patient, dependable leader. Four -day adventures like ours are most common , but you can schedule rides from three to 12 day s in length if you so desire. Baja Bound accomodates groups from four riders to 20 (ours was 15, but seven to nine is ideal ), and rides a ll areas of Baja. It also supplies eve rything including ground trans fer from San Diego to Baja and back, hauling of luggage, meals , hotel rooms, fuel, support trucks, medi cal supplies. spa res, etc. The cornpan y also has a broad rang e of well-prepared rental Honda XRs in its stabl e for those who don't want to bring their own bikes, and riding apparel is ava ilable to rent. Prices vary depending on the number of days you choose, with a four-day tour (three days riding) going for $1475 per rider and an eight-da y adventure down to Cabo San Lucas cos ting $3150. Yes, it' s a lot of money, but when you add up a ll the expenses and conside r the luxury of a dep endable guide and chas e truck, it's ha rd to believe Baja Bound mak es a profit.
