For two laps, Bruscella was on the defense, wit h an experience d Owens glued to his rear fender. Owens put a cla ssic m ov e on Brusce lla, squar ing off a c om er and gr ab bing the lead. Mea nwhile , T orres was fendi ng off Stadden for thi rd. Wi th clea r track ahead, Owens pu lled out to a sizab le lead. Five miles into lap fo ur, Leivan hit a log wrong. Th iele on ce again m ov ed around th e downed Ya maha rider. One m ore ti me, Leiv an got going and moved ahead by th e end o f th e lap . Going into th e fifth and final circui t, Leiva n stop ped for gas . Desp ite only be ing stopped for seve n seconds, Leivan was o vertak en by Thiele fo r the fou rth time. This time, however, Thiele u sed all the good li nes and slo wed th e pa ce in th e t igh t st u ff t o k eep th e four -strok e p il ot behind him. Th iele won by a m ere bik e length.
