White and Gra ham. By lap two, it looked like th e first moto all ov er again. Garcia wa s being hounded by th e Kawasaki ·mounted duo of White and Graham. J UNE 17 A new motocross track has broken g rou nd in th e San Diego area . Barone Race way Park. kno wn for its qu arter -m il e clay ova l tr ack has built a stadi um· styl e m otocross c ourse on the tr ac k i n fie ld . To in t ro d u ce th e new ven ue, tr ac k prom ote rs Yak k ey Raci ng also offered flat -track, quad racin g and go-kart raci ng . In its fir st eve nt, th e new venu e drew 71 riders. To th e delight of the cro wd , 125cc Interm ediate riders Billy Lan inov ich , Jake Elk in s and Michael Sleeter decided to have a game of take out in the seco nd mota rather than head s-up race one anothe r. Th is back·a nd ·forth pushing and shoving fro m th e competitors prov ided the fans with a lot of acti on. Th e thr ee friends did n't hav e any hard feelings, and Elkins was the only rider to act ually drop his m ou nt. Sleeter had got c aught up in a tum ·one inciden t and was a lap down when th e three went after one another. However. the demonstration did show the fans how a rider can set another rider up and blockpass an opponent. The riders would take vari ous li nes to cut on e another off. Strategically placing a rear wheel across someone's front wheel gives th e offens iv e rider control of the track. It was all in fun , and the fans got to see a lot of handlebar-to -handlebar action. When the mayhem was over, Lanin ov ich had won the event with repeat v ic tori es. Elkins managed second overall, with Sleeter tak ing thi rd. Tra vis Bemis went for th e ch eck ers in both th e 125cc No vic e motos, leaving th e battle for seco nd place to Tyl er Roberts and James Mar · ries. Roberts was able to take th e second spot in race one . with Ja me s Miller third. In the fol· low ing moto . M arrie s trail ed B em i s, with Roberts having to settle for third .
